Hello everyone,
new member here -- bought an inflatable kayak in the spring, been running mostly flatwater ponds, a little bit in Duxbury Bay when it's nice and glassy smooth. Only two whitewater runs down the addroscoggin river in New Hampshire. Am feeling pretty confident about messing around on the ponds, but was wondering if anyone had any advice, or upcoming trips up/down the rivers. My dad always talked about following the tide back and forth the North River. and someone said that they've been part way up the Eel. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone,

I'm Steve and I have been using your site since the day I decided I wanted to buy my own kayak (A great resource I may add). I figured I would join the discussion.

A little about me: I have fallen in love with kayaking, but don't get to go very often as I don't like to go out on the water alone. I've stuck to fresh water so far and look forward to hitting some tidal rivers soon and then maybe graduate to the sea. I have a Dicks Potomac 100ES which is really a Pelican Pursuit 100 with a different logo.

6 of us took a very long ride up to the Allagash in northern Maine on
Sept. 2nd to the 7th. Best long trip I've been on so far.
It was a mix of lakes, ponds, flat water river, class 1 and 2 rapids,
waterfalls, boulder fields. After 6 days, it was definitely worth
the long ride up. It required a lot of planning and logistics though.
I learned a great deal on how to read a river on this trip. It's fun
taking a 17' touring boat down class 1-2 rapids. Makes you figure
out how to turn it very quickly. Any later in the season and the water
levels would have been too low though. The campsites are great and
well taken care of.

Here are some pictures:

You can launch at ned's point anytime. At lower tide a sand bar beach is exposed. At high tide the 'beach' is fairly small so it's get in and go.

Post here/give me PM/email, and we can go from there...

Doug Gray has been contacted by the folks running the Plymouth Triathlon Race on Labor Day weekend. They are looking for experienced paddlers to assist in the swimming portion of the races on Sat, Sept 5 and Sun, Sept 6. Volunteers paddlers are needed for both days. Kayakers have to meet at the East Bay Grill parking lot on Sat at 8:45 am. They will be done by 11 am. On Sunday, paddlers have to meet, same place, at 5:45 am and will be done by 9:30. I am hoping that we can have about 12 volunteers each day. The task will be to monitor the swimmers to make sure they are all right.

If you are able to volunteer, please send me a private message within the next day or two with your name, email and phone number. I'll pass this along to Doug, who will get your information to the Triathalon folks.
