Re: Hard core paddler

I ran into this guy today in the parking lot of Hannaford's Supermarket in Quincy. He was carrying his knapsack, a duffel bag and his well worn plastic and aluminum paddle. He had paddled his canoe from Rainsford to Squaw Rock (near Nickerson Beach) on Squantum Neck. Evidently, he's been camping on ...

Nice report Norm! Your assumption about the big pipes at the Fore River shipyard being part of the dry dock plumbing is correct. Those were the discharge outlets when they pumped the water out. On the other hand, your speculation about what's on the site of the old Edison Plant is a little off. All ...

When I visited Calf on a day trip a couple of summers ago I encounted a solo kayaker who was camping. He had been there a couple of days.

While camping may not be permitted, it seems to occur irregularly on a small scale. I don't believe DCR patrols the island with much regularity.

I cut down a two piece Aquabound paddle shaft by doing it a the blade ends. I cut down a 240 cm Aquabound with a glass shaft to 215. You need to allow about 4" for the blade "plug" that fits into the shaft so you cut the shaft about 4" above where the shaft meets the blade. Befor...

Well, since all evidence is showing that Peddocks is not very visitor friendly, Why don't you just land for your pit stop further down the beach, away from the Visitor's Center Dock and the long arm of the Law?
