Re: GPS for kayaking

Yea, I can see how the cost doesn't outweigh the benefit. I go on a 5-6 day trips with friends once a year, always in a different location. While I do a ton of research ahead of time so that I know the entire area we are paddling in, having the GPS makes it much easier to find the campsites, points ...

Re: GPS for kayaking

I agree. Doesn't make all that much sense. That's why I stayed with my Legend for so long. It was pretty cheap when I bought it in 2001. The replacements are ridiculous in cost. I only got this new one because I have an REI credit card and get dividends on purchases. I charge everything to the card ...

Re: GPS for kayaking

I've been using a Garmin Etrex Legend for about 13 years on kayaking trips. I like it because it's pretty small but has a large screen. You can switch from Land to Water making it easier to see the rivers and waterways. The batteries seem to last for about 3 days of 8-9 hour use per day. I just boug...

Re: CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Fall

I think our trip in 2008 was pretty much the same part of the CT. m That was a great trip. That part of the river is more populated and a bit slower than below White River Junction. I have been using the book "Connecticut River Boating Guide: Source to Sea". It's a bit old now and I haven'...

Re: CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Fall

I would love to do a trip like that, if anyone is interested for next year. I have been doing these types of trips for 13 years now. We always go in September / October since it's still fairly warm and the crowds and bugs are gone. We try and pick a different location each year. Past trips have bee...

Re: CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Fall

It's hard to see but in the last 3 pictures, there are some "fog vortexes" rising off the water. It was pretty cool to see those.

CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Falls

This is a trip I just went on with some friends. It was from WhiteRiver Junction to Bellows Falls on the Connecticut River. The best part was camping next to the Harpoon Brewery with it's pub and extreme sized Jenga blocks. Two people ran the Sumner Falls without issue, then paddled back up and did ...

Delaware Water Gap

For my annual kayaking trip, 9 of us ventured down to Barryville, NY to spend 5 days and 4 nights paddling down the Delaware river. I spent about 2 months planning the trip, gathering information, making phone calls, reservations, getting permits, etc... I used the book, "A paddler's guide to t...

We were there this year from the 19th to the 24th of September. Just missed each other.

Some friends and I might go and check this out on Sunday. It's supposed to be 80 degrees.
Depends if I can get my pool closed on Saturday and other chores done - and I can shake this
cold that seems to have crept up.
Anyone else interested?

Allagash River Waterway

6 of us took a very long ride up to the Allagash in northern Maine on Sept. 2nd to the 7th. Best long trip I've been on so far. It was a mix of lakes, ponds, flat water river, class 1 and 2 rapids, waterfalls, boulder fields. After 6 days, it was definitely worth the long ride up. It required a lot ...

Hi Everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to get some kayak handles? I need to replace the handles on the bow and stern of my kayak with ones that are much more comfortable than a small piece of PVC pipe on a rope. Forgot a few items.

- homemade meade
- single barrel JD whiskey ( in a nalgene flask )
- travel proof cigar case
- apples
- a 3-man slingshot to launch the apples when they are past time
if we hadn't eaten them.

I think we managed to launch one about 100 yards or so.
