My childcare day was switched this week so I might be able to attend. Thunderstorms predicted but maybe done by 5. Hoping to see you all, and practice some skills, weather permitting.

Re: Is Windmill point open to non-residents? Parking?

Don't do it. I called the Hull police department a few weeks ago to clarify the situation. They said NO non-resident parking, you WILL be ticketed an HOURLY fee. I asked if there was a time limit for this restriction - did they intend to lift it at some particular time. They said, yes, when the pand...

No. It has not been open for some time - only for ferry parking. There were a few spaces at the very end for short-term parking, but everything past the Nantasket Beaches is posted for residents only now.

Re: Local Info, Hingham Parknig

I just drove out there to confirm for myself that Bathing Beach in Hingham is open. It is indeed open. It's a very big parking lot so if you come in the morning you should be able to find a space. I've never had to go home because I couldn't park there. I also checked out the launch site on the Drif...

Driftway evening saunter, Sunday 8.6

I'm expecting to head out from the Driftway to New Inlet this evening, launching around 4:30 on the last of the outgoing tide, playing around at the inlet - nothing too dicey, just enjoying the water - maybe paddle up to Peggoty Beach if the mood strikes. Stop on the spit for a bit of picnic dinner,...

My take-away here is that there are 3 people interested in doing weekend trips that are posted on this board. Is WTP a Thursday-night-only group? Or maybe a private-trip-only group? I ask so as not to waste time/effort on putting together trips and posting, if no one is likely to be interested. Fine...

Very enjoyable trip report. One of the less-talked-about expeditioning skills is what to do when Plan A is not going to happen. Looks like you made the very best of a less-than-great weather situation. I wonder, is this typically a windy time of year, or did you just have bad luck? Did you take snor...

Sunday July 24 Boston Outer Harbor Islands Jaunt

Planning to try out RClarke's suggestion of launching from James Ave instead of Windmill Point. I paddled out from Hingham Harbor on a recent Sunday morning and passed this location. There were few cars there and it looked like a good choice for heading out through the Gut, so I want to try it. Loca...

Boston Harbor Islands from Hull, Friday May 27

Last minute trip, just decided to take Friday off from work. Tides are good for a late-ebb launch (around 8 am) from Hull gut and out to the islands, then follow tide back in whenever. This is my first day out this year (how did that happen?) so it will be an easy pace and low mileage to shake out t...
