Re: Watertribe Event in Florida

I did a few long practice runs in the Seda but the seat is a little skinny and started to become uncomfortable after 30 miles or so, I need to cut the seat out and glue in a foam seat. The small front hatch on the cetus was definitely a bonus, I stuffed it full of food to save stopping. I'm going to...

Watertribe Event in Florida

I just completed a Watertribe event down here in Florida and thought someone up there might be interested to hear about it. I got pretty interested in the Watertribe group ( m ) before I moved down here and always thought it would be an experience to try an event. The Everglades Challenge is 300 mil...

Re: Hurricane Irma survivor check-in from Briggsy

Hi all, I just saw this post here, Yes all is well here. Our first hurricane since moving to sunny Florida, it was pretty exciting for sure. Weirdly I had some sort of premonition a week before and bought 20 sheets of plywood and 30 2x4's in order to make some custom hurricane shutters for our doors...

Windblown in the Florida Keys 7th Jan to 15th Jan 2017

A couple of years ago, Bea, Norm and I did a weeklong kayak trip in Florida Bay, and we discussed a plan to paddle the length of the keys from Key Largo to Key West. When you get down to planning it, it would mean paddling 110 miles in 6 days, which while doable would mean there wouldn't be much tim...

Re: CT River from White River Junction south to Bellows Fall

Hey John, We did the CT river from Dodge Falls Dam (near Ryegate) to Wilson Landing (just north of Hanover VT). It was a fab trip and a good distance without portaging around dams, which is the big issue with the CT river. Great pics from your trip. Good thing about the CT river is the shuttle betwe...

Hey Chip, A friend and I landed on Great Brewster for lunch one time with a view to hiking up to the picnic table at the top. Be warned the mosquitoes were worse than anything down here in the Everglades, and that was at lunchtime on a hot sunny July or August day out in the full open sunshine. We a...

Re: Looking for surf, New Inlet, Thurs 10th Sept

Thanks Mark, checked it out on Google Earth last night and going south definitely looked less interesting. Supposed to be 1-2' swell, not sure how that translates to that particular area, but I've had 2 good surf sessions there in the last 2 years.
We'll see I guess.

Going to paddle from Driftway ramp out to New Inlet on Thursday, looking to surf that area. If no surf will paddle up or down the coast and back. Will launch 9.30 to 10am, will aim to get back around 4pm. Some surf experience would be good if you want to come along. You must have a helmet and some r...

While thumbing through the Eldridge Tide book, as one does, I noticed that 23rd July had the perfect tides for a jaunt down the Elizabeth Islands to Cuttyhunk. It was fun paddling with you all. I hope you managed to retain some of the information, the time seemed to fly by way to quickly. I'd like to say that I fixed it, but I believe that "fix" is too strong a word. Let's just say that it's operable again. It's still stiff, and this was causing a section of the cable to buckle. I duct taped that into place, and now I'm back in business. One thing though is that I have to ...

I meant the skeg control slider is glassed in and at the rear of that slider assembly is a plastic tube protuding from the glass and the skeg cord is in that tube. I am assuming that with a solid wire skeg control cable you would probably need something more substantial than a thin plastic tube. I h...
