Re: Bea and Ken present Kayaking Maine Trail!

Bea & Ken did a great job with their presentation. Very informative and I was impressed with the logistics of coordinating 3 peoples' schedules, tides and spotting vehicles near landings. The presentation was well attended.

Timing The Tides Workshop

Re: REI selling off their Rental equipment 4/12

Chip, thanks for posting this. I picked up a couple of paddles, a pfd, a sprayskirt and a couple of mesh bags all for about $100. I thought it was a great deal!

Re: WW II Tower Cohasset Harbor

Norm, Thanks for that site. It has great information and photos. I confused Strawberry Point in Scituate with Strawberry Hill in Hull earlier. Your information cleared it up. This thread isn't directly concerned with kayaking but is connected with the area that we paddle in providing another dimensi...

Re: WW II Tower Cohasset Harbor

Thanks for the replies. I'm still interested in learning more about the Glades Association tower. Maybe I'll check the Historical Societies in Scituate and Cohasset. A lot of you paddlers probably know that there are actually 2 towers on Jewell Island, Casco Bay, Maine and you can visit them. I thin...

Re: Washburn Island Camping?

Thanks Pat, I knew about booking 6 months in advance but didn't consider that people might reserve whole blocks of time thereby preventing other people from making reservations. I wonder if people set up their computers to make reservations automatically as the site become available. Possible? Dick

WW II Tower Cohasset Harbor

Hi, does anyone know anything about the WW II observation tower visible from Cohasset Harbor? It looks similar to the ones on Jewel Island in Maine. I think the tower is actually in Scituate on property owned by the Glades Association. I'm wondering if it's possible to visit the tower but I haven't ...

Washburn Island Camping?

I've been trying to reserve a single tent site on Washburn Island through Reserve America sometime in July or August. Every time I've tried, ALL of the sites have already been booked. Any advice or insights? A call to Reserve America yielded no results.

You guys have some really nice trip reports. I think a Little Harbor/Minot's Light trip is definitely in order for the upcoming season!

Re: Little Harbor, Cohasset

Wow, thanks Norm.

Excellent trip reports! Those pictures of the mansions make you wonder who lives in them. Certainly nobody I know.

I didn't think of checking the trip reports first, but I will next time.

Little Harbor, Cohasset

Hi, I rarely post here but am wondering if anyone has paddled this area. It looks very picturesque but there's a strong current under the bridge during flow tides. I'm not sure if there's a put-in nearby but I think access is limited due to all the mansions in the area. Anyone have experience with t...

Re: Itty-bitty bottles (for first aid kit)

Hi Pat,

The containers that blood glucose test strips come in might fit your purpose. They're smaller than 35 mm film canisters. Because they have a hinged lid it wouldn't be as easy to lose as a lid that comes off. I have a couple you can have if you're interested.

Re: Sea Anchors?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not looking for a bottom anchor but something like a parachute. I found an article on a Chesapeake Bay paddling website on how to make your own. I thought Adam B. might have some ideas. Anyone know how to get in touch with him?

Sea Anchors?

Does anyone have experience using sea anchors? I'm thinking about keeping the bow pointed into the wind when resting, having a snack or fishing. Any suggestions on how long the line should be, methods of retrieval, materials? Thanks in advance.

Wow, that is a great offer! I'm interested in all of the topics. I've been sea kayaking for years but didn't get out much last season and could use some brushing up on my skills.

Looking For Nelson Pigeon (sp?)

Hi,
I'm a lucky recipient of one of the SPOT GPS units that Adam generously gave away. Adam suggested that I coordinate with Nelson to receive the unit. How do I contact you? I'm in Hanover.
