Joyce, It was a pleasure talking to you at the expo. As far as paddling the North River, this is a good place to start for basic launch and tide info. http://www.nsrwa.org/recreation/kayak_main.asp Also, that map that the NSRWA provides is a great thing to have. If you didn't pick one up at the expo...

You crazy bast*rd. This is as close as I got to being on the water. This was high tide at Cedar Point. They had the road to the lighthouse closed off so I couldn't get any closer. I was on the other side of the harbor and the sound of the crashing waves was still loud. http://www.sdrimages.com/photo...

Re: Date Change
I've updated the header post for this thread to reflect a date change to May 5th, with June 2nd as the alternate date if the first weekend in May is too cold or rainy. I'd like to change the focus of future discussion on this thread to who would be interested in doing what to their boats if we hold...

Wild Turkey Paddlers in Advertisement
We must be gaining notoriety. We are now being featured in advertisements. I just noticed that the picture Ron took of my family during out innaugural group paddle/row on the North River last year is now on Chesapekae Light Crafts website. http://www.clcboats.com/boats/skerry_photos.php

... the Vinyard ferry, stay out of the way of that one, even if you know they have seen you. Back in my windsurfing days (pre-marriage years) I was out jumping waves with my buddies off of Kalmus Beach and nearly got taken out by the ferry. I was new to the area and didn't realize it would come fly...

Monadnock 3/17
Anyone interested in climbing Monadnock this saturday? If you aren't familiar with the Mt., it's in southern NH (under a 2hr ride) and, although not super challenging (My 8 year old climbed it in the fall), is a fun climb (alot of boulder scampering), with some beautiful views if the sky is clear.

There is a really good Mexican joint right up 3A, in the same plaza as EMS. Or we could just go a little further up 3A to Ocean Kai, which is Hingham's dive Chinese place. I wouldn't want to leave my boat in the parking lot of the 99, seems a little sketchy... oooooohhhh... I am a fajita fanatic!!!!

"Spirited Waters" by Jennifer Hahn
... gets a thumbs-up from me. The author describes her 750 mile paddle through the inside passage from Alaska to Washington state. What I liked most about this book was that it wasn't just a trip report. Hahn also takes on the role of Naturalist and Historian describing the significance of the areas...

Late Fall Lake Paddle
One of my fellow Skerriers, David Bixby, and his wife are recent converts to kayaking. He just sent me a quick trip report for a paddle they did on a lake in his home state of Montana. Beautiful scenery alert!!

Admittedly, I can't recall everything we learned from Doug that day (I blame age, young kids, and too much partying in college). But, he did suggest that clipping into the bow was not adviseable. I believe the reason was that both paddlers should be able to abort the tow if necessary. It makes sense...

I haven't had time to read the article. But, in general, I can say this about towing. We spent a little time practicing towing while up in Stonington with Doug. It was enough to convince me that many of my preconceived notions on the subject were misquided. Like any other paddling topic, there are v...

Part trip reports, part reflections on life using paddling experiences as methaphors. I really enjoyed this book.
