Re: Full Moon at the Sandspit 7-25-10?
Hi Bob - I'm looking at arriving at the Driftway about 5:30. The directions to the launch: Take Route 3 to exit 13 (approx 10 miles from the Braintree split). This is the Hanover Mall exit. Left off the exit onto Rt 53 north. About a quarter mile up, take a right at the first set of lights onto Main...

Re: Full Moon at the Sandspit 7-25-10?
Hi Phil - Sounds good. I have Jess till 5PM, but would probably head down to the Driftway right after I drop her off, so get there about 5:30. Looks like all clear by evening on Sunday but let's keep an eye on the weather. Some small rideable surf does look promising right now.

Re: Full Moon at the Sandspit 7-25-10?
Hi Deb! Sorry - this has been a perennial favorite with the WTP, so I neglected to include details. The Sandspit is the local parlance for the large sandy flats that appear at low tide at the mouth of the North and South Rivers in Scituate. We launch from the Driftway Boat launch in Scituate and pad...

Full Moon at the Sandspit 7-25-10?
Sunday is the Full Moon and we have another nice convergence of sunset/moonrise and low tide at the Spit: Low Tide: 6PM Sunset: 8PM Full Moon Rise: 8PM Anybody interested in an easy paddle out to the Spit for a picnic and cosmic scenery? There may even be a little baby surf to play in for those so i...

Great! i was planning on being in the area anyways. What is the parking situation like? Im guessing it will be a crowded day especially with no other whitewater (except fife) going on. Is it an antibacterial duckie? Bassing beach was on the closed list again today. Ok, just to clarify, Bassing was well within the safety limits for Enterococci. As when it was closed the last time, the sampling point directly across Cohasset Harbor at the yacht club was NOT closed. These closings a...

Kate and I are planning a rare appearance. We may disappear part way through the trip, though. She wants to work on rolls and I want to chase bluefish.
Either way, we will both want to eat afterward!

Cohasset Wave Saturday 1:30PM
It's a pretty big tide - 10 feet, with a 10 1/2 foot differential between high and low.
Greenheads are here, so long sleeves are a good idea.
Plan to be on the water by about 1:30, or earlier if you want to warm up before things get too lively.

Can someone join with their longboat? Longboats can play in there, sure. We've done that plenty of times. Just remember that once you go in, there is no getting out until almost high tide. Re: July 3rd Fireworks Paddle - NOT the Esplanade
We researched this a little more and decided the best launch point would be Webb State Park. Much less boat traffic to deal with after the fireworks and we don't have to worry about gates being locked at dusk at Abigail Adams. We are heading to Plum Island tomorrow, so depending on when we get back ...

I had the idea to do a South Shore Fireworks paddle next Saturday evening. One thing I would add, is that another common venue for folks in this area with whitewater boats is to take them out for ocean "short boat" surf sessions. River runners are better for this than playboats. Kate's Dagger GT seems to do it all for her - river running, playspots like Cohasset ...

What I usually do is to wait until the general discussion forum is overrun with some specific genre, such as whitewater kayaking, so much so that people have to wade through them all to find topics other than whitewater kayaking.
