How long of a trip are you thinking Norm? I'd have to be back in N. Weymouth by 1:30 and as you may recall, I like early morning paddles I'd want to be back by noon at the latest but probably earlier depending on how early we start. I'm not looking for a 15 mile trip with "texture". I'd like a 5-9 ...

Duxbury Powder Point Bridge - Sat. 6/20/09 - Morning
It looks like there will be a break in the bad weather Saturday morning and the tide is high at 9:30am in Duxbury Harbor. I'm thinking of putting in at Powder Point Bridge and then depending on the conditions, paddling out towards Clark's Island if it's calm or into the Duxbury Back River if it's a ...

Wednesday 6/17/09 After Work
Anybody want to get out on the water on Wednesday after work when the weather is forecast to be good? I'm game for anywhere from South Boston as early as 4:00pm to Duxbury as early as 5:00pm. (I work in Southie and get out at about 3:00)

Zoar Outdoor - Demofest - June 26-28
Zoar Outdoor in Charlmont MA on the Deerfield River is having a demofest weekend June 26-28. Weymouth Back River - June 6th
I know there has already been a trip report about this spot this year but I thought I'd add another one to mention how many large birds you can view if you head as far inland as possible. I checked the bird book this morning to confirm the different types I came across. The list includes: Osprey, Sn...

Short paddle - Sat. - June 6th, 10am - Weymouth Back River
I'm thinking of taking a local, short paddle on Saturday due to afternoon commitments. Would anyone like to join me for a trip up the Weymouth Back River at 10:00am? High tide is at about 11:00am so there should be no problem fighting the current. I plan to launch from Abigail Adams, paddle all the ...

Chip - still looking to visit Hangman's Island to cross it off your list? I don't think there are any restrictions to launching kayaks since the beach is so long and spread out. I believe Jordan is correct about the "muck factor", it's fairly rocky so you don't sink in too far. The problem with laun...

Ockway Bay to Osterville Grand Island - 5/22/09
The weather gods were a little perplexing for this trip this year. Looking back on last year's trip report, there was a threat of rain but it turned out nice. This year, the weather was just about perfect...except for that darned wind. But at least it was a warm wind. As we prepared for the put-in, ...

I've done a report on this trip a couple different times so if some of the first timers want to share their experiences that would be great. Nelson - I'll try to write a trip report if nobody else is interested. But I'm a slow writer so I may not finish it for another couple days. I've sorted throu...

Chris - I'd still like to get one of the Remix style boats. I'm not crazy about the GTX so far, but I have not really been in good moving water with it yet. We used the GTX and 8 rec boats in the Natchaug river Sunday and added lots of scrapes to the hulls - there just was not enough water in the 7 ...

Did anyone get any pics or did the cameras blow away? I have a few good pics and lots of blurry pics due to salt water splashes on the lens. I'm still trying to figure out a good method to protect the lens from splashes. Keeping it in my mesh life jacket pocket did not work well. I'll try to get so...

Hingham - Thursday 5/14/09
Sounds like it's going to be another bad weather Thursday this week. I just checked the weather on my marine radio and heard that there will be a "small craft advisory" tomorrow, starting at 1:00pm with a possibility of an upgrade to "gale warnings". I guess I'll go to my son's track meet tomorrow a...

Charles River, Millis to Natick - May 2, 2009
The goal of this trip was to take a leisurely paddle down the Charles River in a scenic area with no portages, stop for lunch and a hike in Sherborn Town Forest and then continue on to the South Natick Dam to take out at Grove Park. Originally the trip was going to be a week earlier but had to be re...

Howdy - Anyone have suggestions for proper attire at Hingham at present? I see that the surface water temp. ni Boston Harbor is nearing 50 degrees. I'll give it to you straight from the book I used as a reference to plan my trips on the Charles. The book is: "The Charles River, exploring nature and history on foot and by canoe" by Ron McAdow, Second Edition, which I bought at an REI store for $18. It says on page 78: "Harvard professor Daniel S...
