Skills - Hanson - 7/16 - 4:30pm

Last minute decision by regulars to have a skills session at Hanson this week instead of paddling in Hingham. Tide was fairly questionable for Hingham this week anyway.

Lets do a PPPP - parking lot post paddle picnic again too.

Re: Hingham 7/16/20 4:30pm?

Since the majority of regulars paddled in Hingham on Wednesday and would like to do a skills session on Thursday, we decided that we will not go to Hingham for the Thursday evening paddle and instead will be going to Camp Kiwanee in Hanson this week.

I'll create a posting on the Skills forum.

Hingham 7/16/20 4:30pm?

Does anyone want to paddle in Hingham this Thursday night? Or does anyone want to propose a different location? (Not too far if you want me there - I'm working till 4:00) Weather forecast looks pretty good. High Tide is at 8:54pm, so some other locations might not have enough water to launch at 5:00...

Skills at Hanson? - Kiwanee Closed 6/25/2020

Warning - Looks like they finally did something about all the scofflaws using the beach at Camp Kiwanee. Sharon brought her grand-daughter there to swim last night and the parking lot was blocked off. We'll need to check it before going there again. Not sure where the next Thursday night paddle (Jul...

Hingham 6/25, Arrive 4:30

Weather looks nice for Thursday evening in Hingham this week and nobody has proposed a change of location, so I assume Hingham is where we should go. I'm planning to be there at about 4:30. We'll plan to launch at 5:00. All our regular safety precautions apply, like: sea kayak of 14' or more with bu...

Wow, that would be great. Might be worth trying to get up there this year in case the plan is to sell after the season or something. Now we just need Maine to open up to Mass residents.

Dan: I apologize - I mis-read your original posting, missing that you were talking about Long Pond in Plymouth. I was talking about Long Pond in Freetown/Lakeville. Your spot in Plymouth looks very interesting - I don't think I've ever been to that ramp before.

Sorry, Norm

Re: Skills June 18

Dan - What's that boat ramp like on a weeknight? I stopped by there on Saturday at about 4:00pm and the lot was full and the place was a complete zoo of people trying to launch and retrieve all kinds of boats. As far as launching a kayak, my past experience there is that it was good for a small grou...

Bea - I think we should just keep one thread unless there are people that are still going to go out Thursday night, then we should break out into 2 threads. I believe that multiple threads can get confusing if people are not following both closely.

Re: Hingham 6/11 or maybe change?

After the Tuesday paddle, we had a discussion about the Thursday night weather forecast and the consensus decision was to go out Friday evening from Stephens Field in Plymouth. I guess we can still shoot to arrive at 4:30 and launch at 5:00.

Hingham 6/11 or maybe change?

The weather forecast looks very windy again for this Thursday evening's paddle in Hingham. The forecast for Friday seems warmer and less windy. Do we want to change nights and/or change locations?

Let's discuss please.

Re: Local Info, Hingham Parknig

I have not paddled out of Hingham very often on a weekend since we go out there every other Thursday night, but I can't imagine the boat ramp parking lot getting filled up completely, even on a weekend. There are 2 parking lots, the one at the boat ramp and the bathing beach lot. We normally use the...

It would be great to see you Chip! Drag out some more of the other original Turkeys with you too. Might be like the old days that I've heard about where you had a little celebration in parking lots after paddles. Wasn't there something about "it's a twist off man".

There is a film festival that I normally go to this time of year. Of course there are no theaters open that can show it right now, so they are presenting it online for 48 hours starting Monday evening 7:00pm, June 8, 2020. I'm planning to be there at about 4:30 with Sharon and we'll be using rec boats this week. I wonder if it would be ok to tailgate in the Venus 3 back parking lot rather than at Kiwanee? I'm concerned Kiwanee will have more mosquitoes than a paved parking lot.
