NSRWA's Halloween Paddle
Since I could bring the kids, I was able to attend this fun event. Doug and crew did a great job of making an entertaining trip of a day that started out questionable with high winds, strong current, and full-moon flooding. Here are the pics I took http://www.sdrimages.com/gallery/3734163#214491223 ...

CD Gulfstream
A friend is selling his Fiberglass Current Designs Gulfstream (no, it's not mine). It is 5 years old and he is asking $1500. New, the Gulfstream is now retailing for $3K. Here is some info on the Gulfstream http://www.cdkayak.com/products/template/product_detail.php?IID=148&SID=1f8c8002eb418c00a...

I've seen them while sailing off of Block Island. Another common shark-sighting mistake is sea turtles. They will sometimes swim sideways on the surface with a fin sticking up. I've made this mistake twice. I have yet to see a shark, though (aside from a small sand shark that chased my 3-year old ni...

By the way, does everyone know we have a National Class Athelete in our group? If you don't, wish Jordan good luck when he competes in Nationals for his Archery. Good luck Jordan! Archery?.... I would have guessed quarters. Are you even allowed to use Archery and Athlete in the same phrase Good Luc...

Re: The T and Cowboy scramble rescue
Only drawbacks, seems to me, are the lack of physical contact with the swimmer as they enter the cockpit, the sheer newness of the drill, and how tough it seems it might be for the rescuer to steady the swimmer's boat. also, the paddle is left unmanaged and could easily float away in windy conditio...

I use a Canon Powershot S1 IS for most of my on-the-water shots. I have the waterproof housing for it, but I rarely use it anymore. I now have a small dry bag in my lap with my camera, vhf and other essentials that I can easily get to. I keep my camera in a Pelican Dry Box in my Dry Bag. The S3 came...

Re: Very nice!
A Grape Island overnight is on my list, looks like you had a good time. Nice tarp, ours got reduced to shreds on Assateague, I've been keeping an eye on Campmor for another that would pack well for the boats. How are the bugs out there after the sun goes down? (They've never seemed very bad during ...

PRODUCT REVIEW: Oragami 4
Inspired by Doug's "Circus Fly", I purchased a Sierra Designs Oragami 4 ( http://www.sierradesigns.com/tarps.display.php?id=528 )(REI Outlet has them for $125). The reason I decided on this product was the vast number of configurations and uses available due to the number and location of guy points ...

Hey Steve: Jess and I are kayak-camping on Bumpkin on Saturday night, so we should see about running into each other somewhere on the water or on one of the islands. NSRWA Low Tide Paddle
Yesterday, my oldest daughter and I helped out with the NSRWA Low Tide Paddle. 15 vessels launched from the Driftway, including a 30 year old Manchester canoe (interesting build) and Brenna and I in our Skerry. Contrary to the forecast, the weather was ideal except for a brisk breeze that had me a l...
