Foxwoods or Kayaking??? 5/5/10

Of course kayaking won. My wife scored a free room at Foxwoods and not wanting to spend a fabulous day off work indoors, I duly dropped her off at the front door of the casino in the morning and headed 20 minutes south to South Lyme where I parked at the Four Mile River boat ramp off Oakridge Dr. (w...

Re: Camping on Boston Harbor Islands

I stayed on Lovells about 8 years ago and we camped on the closest end to Boston city skyline. There are a few secluded sites at that end. We went midweek in July I think and we had the entire island to ourselves. We were on the ferry from Hingham and Grape and Bumpkin looked like they were a lot bu...

Camping on Boston Harbor Islands

Anyone know how busy the islands campsites get in the summer. Would I need to book well in advance or could I wait a week or two before I go???
Washburn Island in Falmouth, for example, is already nearly fully booked this early in the year

Re: Prijon Kodiak 17 VS. WS Tempest 170

I've actually seen that argonaut on craigslist, it is very clean. He's been trying to sell it for over a year now.
If you buy a used tempest, make sure it hasn't banana'd by being stored badly.

Re: Anyone paddling on Sat?

I'm down on the Cape and am going to Nauset harbor to play in the surf from 9 ish to about 1.30-2 ish..... Low tide 8.51am, high tide 2.46 pm. I usually go alone so only paddle on an incoming tide for safety and usually only play inside the inlet....worst case scenario I get washed in and use the Ca...

I originally used m or m which prints OK and can use on any computer as it is a web page. Phil, you are downloading the chart by clicking "Download RNC" in the top right corner, right? The chart then downloads to "documents" where it is saved as a BSB and KAP file, which you need a seperate program ...

Yes,I checked and there are plenty of options to open BSB files (some free, some were $20 ) but you need some sort of Photoshop program to be able to print etc and I don't have any such programs. By the time you get Adobe Photoshop or similar you may as well just buy the maptech device. I used to pr...

Online Chart Resources

Anyone used Maptechs US Boating Charts DVD ?? Seems like it would be perfect for kayaking being able to print the section of chart you need for your trip. Cost $99, .... or 4 regular charts, but you have the entire US coastline.
