cgr - I have typically used really cheap reels and, although I thoroughly rinse them after taking them out on the yak, they are usually ready for the trash after a couple months of heavy use. I picked up a couple for $6 each when Decathlon went out of business last winter, so I'm using those now, al...

Hey Adam: I'm a maybe for at least part of this trip, but I'm more interested in catching some fish than logging a ton of miles. Yeah, if somebody had a house on the Cape that would be nice. Let's see what we can scare up.

Oh, wait a minute - were you there this past week? She didn't seem to notice. :D :D :D

Paddling Kids?

Does anybody on here have kids that paddle? MY daughter, Jessica, age 10, has been paddling for a couple years now and we'll be going out this weekend for her first time this year. Got me thinking it would be fun to do a Paddle With Kids, if anybody has any kids about her age that also paddle.

Hey Lance, on the skeg problem, this might seem obvious but if you find you need to exert much pressure on the slider to try to lower the skeg, don't force it (or you will kink the cable), but first check the skeg box for any obstructions, such as pebbles, tightly packed mud, etc. Then, pull the ske...

No, couldn't have been me, but I'd love to try it! That hard-chined boat is a lot tougher to keep upright on those squirrelly eddy lines than my Explorer would be. Paddling With a NOLS Instructor

Well, the Men's Kayak Rally today was sparsely attended, *Ahem*. Since it was just me and Johnnysmoke, I elected to make the newly minted NOLS instructor and Wilderness First Aid trainee the designated trip leader so that I could be the one getting into trouble. *Ahem*. It was a pretty mild day, vir...

I'm still planning to be at Cohasset Harbor around 10:30 tomorrow morning, at least for some playboating in the Rip. Plans beyond that will be based on willingness of any other participants and assessment of conditions. Hey, if it is too nice out, we will just have to cancel this for another time!

It's going to blow like snot on Saturday from the NNE. Should make for a good time at Little Harbor. :P :P :P

The girly-men paddle on Sunday should see less wind but possibly some clean, good-sized surf in the right locations.

The water is still plenty cold, probably not much over 50 degrees. This is a protected, inshore paddle and very light winds are expected, but a wetsuit with some sort of splashtop/jacket really should be a minimum requirement for any cold water paddling.
