Anybody up for a Tuesday evening paddle?

Anybody up for a Tuesday evening paddle?
High tide's at 7:30 on Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone would like to get out for an hour or so? I'm open to suggestions about location but it should be fairly local due to the days getting shorter.
5:30 is about the earliest I can make it depending on where it is.
Anyone up for it??

I actually have my kayak at home now so I may be able to make it. We are still getting used to the kids schedule so I will have to check tonight. I usually leave work at 4:30 and get to Weymouth at about 5:00. If you are looking to get a little more north you could launch from the Back river in Weymouth (Abigail Adams Park) and head out to Grape Island. You guys know the Walloston launch site too.

That might work but it would be closer to 6 before I could get there.
Can you park and launch right from Abigail Adams Park?

Although, I am sure you guys already have a back up plan.
I could do Duxbury Bay if this doesn't work out. I would even try leaving out of Green Harbor and paddling along the coast for a while.
But I'm still game for Weymouth.

Uh-oh. I might have a snag in the works.
We have a meeting with a potential customer at 3pm tomorrow in Plymouth. I don't see any reason why the meeting wouldn't end by 4pm, but you just never know with these things. I'll have my phone with me and update you if it looks like time might become a facter for me. But don't change any plans based on this. I'm still optimistic that we can get home early enough. I'll have my stuff packed and ready to go.

So just to be clear, is this what's in store for tonight.
Meet at Abigail Adams park at 5:45 PM.
Pat, Chip, Nelson and Ron are expecting to go.
Pat may have another commitment but will most likely be there.
The plan is to paddle out to Grape Island and back, preferable before dark.
Anything else??

There were no smilies after that, were you kidding??
I plan on wolfing down a peanut butter sandwich when get home and munching on something else on my way there. That should hold me over.
Chip... Don't forget your GPS.

I have to get back as soon as we're done, so you guys will be on your own.
Pizza and PPR does sound good though.

Back River at Dusk
Hi Guys:
Don't take this the wrong way but I think you need more than headlamps if you are going to be out after sunset. USCG requirements say one white light visible for two miles - common sense says the light should be visible fore and aft as well as port and starboard (i.e. 360 degrees).
Watch the boat traffic by the marina and be really carefull of the commuter boat traffic between the Hingham Shipyard and Boston (you have to cross that channel to get to Grape) after all it was the Hingham commuter ferry that ran down the two stalled power boats in the West Gut between Peddocks and Nut Is about a month ago.
All the cautionary tales aside, have fun!

Thanks Craig but I think we'll be back before it gets too dark. If not the four of us will paddle in a diamond shape with our headlamps strategically placed so that they shine in all directions.
It's not that far from where you live, why don't you just come and join us.

hmmmm, if I'm not there don't wait, but I will try to be there. lights? I have a white strobe for my PFD that is supposed to be visible for one mile, but my understanding is that you only use a strobe for an emergency beacon? I'll bring our ledhedz if we make it.
Hey how about Saturday morning?

...CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST ADVISORIES ON OPHELIA FROM THE
TROPICAL PREDICTION CENTER...
THE LATE MORNING FORECAST FROM THE TROPICAL PREDICTION CENTER MOVES OPHELIA ONTO A PORTION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST TOMORROW...THEN TURNS HER NORTHEAST WHILE GRADUALLY ACCELERATING. IT IS FORECAST TO PASS ABOUT 175 MILES SOUTHEAST OF NANTUCKET LATE FRIDAY NIGHT.
IT NOW APPEARS MORE LIKELY THAT OPHELIA WILL REMAIN FAR ENOUGH
OFFSHORE TO MAINLY POSE AN IMPACT TO THE MARINE COMMUNITY...WITH SEAS BUILDING TO 10 FEET AND WIND GUSTS TO 30 KNOTS FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.
HOWEVER...A COLD FRONT MOVING EAST FROM THE GREAT LAKES MAY TAP INTO MOISTURE FROM OPHELIA AND POTENTIALLY BRING HEAVY RAIN TO PARTS OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THE MOST LIKELY AREA TO RECEIVE HEAVY RAIN INCLUDES RHODE ISLAND AND EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS...WHERE RAINFALL TOTALS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE. OTHER LOCATIONS IN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND MAY RECEIVE AS MUCH AS 1 TO 2 INCHES.
WHILE WIDESPREAD RIVER OR STREAM FLOODING IS NOT CURRENTLY
ANTICIPATED DUE TO RECENT DRY WEATHER...THE HEAVY RAIN COULD BRING SIGNIFICANT URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING.
KEEP IN MIND THERE IS STILL UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE TRACK OF OPHELIA. A TRACK CLOSER THAT CURRENTLY FORECAST WOULD THREATEN NANTUCKET AND THE OUTER CAPE WITH WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH AND BRING HIGHER SEAS TO THE COASTAL WATERS.
PLEASE STAY TUNED TO NOAA ALL HAZARDS WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA FOR UPDATED INFORMATION THIS WEEK.
I guess this is those waves I've been reading about. Sounds like Saturday morning could be some good boogy boarding.

Great paddle
Had a good time, it was real nice to get out for a couple hours on a weeknight, I haven't managed that in a couple months. Next time I will pack the refreshments.
So I gues I hadn't read the Minot Light trip report, I just read the string. I looked like a great outing! I could definitely be up for it if you guys do it again.
