Pre-Season Pool Time

Post by kayakerjnj »

Greetings All,

There was some discussion at the end of last season expressing some interest in a pre-season pool session for skills practice, rescue, etc. Last year I had investigated what possible venues might be available and received some preliminary pricing for pool time. Last year the cost for pool rental time was running around $100-$125/ hour, which included a required lifeguard (mandated). The two venues that I had looked into were in Duxbury and Randolph.

If there is still sufficient interest (10) people willing to commit to the pool cost ~ $20-25 per person, we can arrange a two hour session for our group.

Please post your interest level and a time or day that would be preferred.

If there’s enough interest I’ll will try and schedule some time in April.

Let’s get ready for the season ahead, it’s nearly here!

Cheers,

Jordan

I would be interested. I work in Duxbury Mondays and Thursdays so evening on either of those days would work for me.

I'm interested. Either venue. I don't have a schedule of my sons track meets yet, but generally I think any weeknight would work for me.

Thanks,

Pool Availability Update

Post by kayakerjnj »

The Percy Pool in Duxbury is a popular place.....

So here's the deal:

It's $85/hour, and the only scheduled openings are on April 2, 9, & 16th from 8:30 - 10:30PM (sorry no 6-8 or 7-9PM available).

Based on the preliminary responses there seems to be enough interest to try settling on a date to lock in.

One caveat, if you're in, you're committed, ie pleases send your $$, it will be non-refundable once the arrangementswe are made.

They apparently have a very busy rental rental schedule, so if these dates don't work, we won't have more opportunities until May.

At this point (entirely arbitrary), check your respective schedules to see if April 9th works. (trying to save iterations of posting)

Other:

The recreation department requires our gear to be "hosed off", free of debris and soils that will "muck up" the pool.

If we have 12 or people we're less than $15 Per Person, not bad for two hours.

The sooner we finalize the date, the more certainty we have of getting the time.

Cheers Everyone,

Jordan

Sounds awesome Jordan. I am available on April 2 and 9 (the 16th I am away).

Is this a roll session, or rescue or what ever we want it to be??? And do we all bring our boats? Sorry if I am asking questions you have already answered....it's been a busy couple of weeks.

Hi Bea,

It's all the above. Strokes, rescues, rolls, or just floating around with all our friends.

There will be no shortage of people who will be able to help with whatever anyone wishes to try.

It should be another fun time.

Greetings All,

Based on the preliminary feedback, I'm going to speak with the pool director to try an lock in on the 9th.

Hold off until early next week, and I'll have a better idea on the amount, but I anticipate it will be no more than a "whopping" $17 person (based on 10 people).

Cheers,

Update

Post by kayakerjnj »

Ok.....

Here's the situation, apparently Duxbury requires a group such as we are to have our own insurance........ Long story, doesn't have a happy ending.

Randolph was the other venue that was a possiblility.

Please post your willingness to move this another venue or desire to hold off and wait for Hanson to warm up

Sorry, gang I'm really bummed out the Duxbury folks were so hesitant to host us.

After seeing what Pat was planning it makes sense why they asked if we were insured by Lloyds of London

I would've been interested in Duxbury, as it's right down the street, but don't think I'd be able to do it in Randolph. Norm, you said your son runs track...what school does he run for? I coach at Rockland, so I was curious. Can't wait for the kayaking season to start, and hope to see some of you at the NSRWA Expo this Saturday.

c5johnson - my son runs track for Abington - hope we can reschedule our meet with Rockland 4/11 as my son and many others are on a band trip then. See you at the expo Saturday - I'll be wearing a tan Acadia National Park baseball cap.

Randolph is available.

We will have a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, with a time slot ~ 7-9PM.

I will be trying to arrange an evening session for Tuesday (April 15th) with my contact at the pool this afternoon.

Please let me know who's still interested, ASAP.

We're on for 4/15/08 @ 7-9PM!

Post by kayakerjnj »

Hi Gang,

We're on! 7-9PM on the 15th of April.

It's more expensive than Duxbury, so based on 10 people we should plan on $25 PP.

Please send your $$, just so I'm not left holding the bag

The more that participate, the merrier!

Cheers,

Date is Tuesday April 15th from 7-9PM
