Hingham @ 5 PM Thursday Afternoon!
Greetings,
Thursday afternoon, is supposed to be beautiful with only light winds.
High Tide is at 3:40 PM
Is anyone up for an early start to the Hingham season?
Cheers,

I'm afraid I'm a definite no for Hingham today. Can't get there in time so I think I'll check out Cleveland Pond at Ames Nowell State Park, Abington, at about 5:00/5:30 if I get my truck back from the mechanic on time. The pond there is large and fairly nice this time of year before the underwater growth chokes it in the summer and makes it feel like you're paddling in mud. I believe it's about a 3 mile paddle if you hug the shoreline all the way around. There are quite a few geo-caches there that are close to the water and can be reached by kayak. I'll probably just use my 9' recreational kayak and work on endurance. If anyone wants to join me I've got 3 other rec boats I could bring and lend out.
Have fun out there in Hingham today.

Great night
Well,
The weather was perfect, the rolling clinic put on by Chris and Kate was impressive.
The rest of us, Nelson, Mark, Ron and myself, along with the two rolling machines had a great first paddle around Bumpkin.
We lucked out tonight, it was so strange to see the whole bay void of any other boats. The gas dock were not even set up. We had the place to ourselves.
We finished the night over at STARS and have officially kicked off the WT Paddlers Thursday Night Ritual.
Thanks to all for making the evening great!
Cheers,
Jordan

It was great having someone else out there rolling with me! Chris did very well, no rescues required, he came up on his own steam every time.
Anyone else want to join us?

Since the water is still kinda cold for us non-rollers and the tide is not favorable this week, how about a different idea...how about a lake that is large enough for sea kayaks, has a nice boat ramp with large parking lot and is usually too full of power boats in the summer to be enjoyable for paddlers - might be nice this week since it is still early. The lake I'm refering to is Long Pond in Lakeville. Here is the Google Map to the boat ramp location: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=41.783094 ... (Long+Pond)&t=p&z=10&f=d
If that is too far, another place with the same attributes, but smaller is Monponsett Ponds, which is not that far from the normal Thursday night Camp Kiwanee location. There's a good boat ramp and parking lot there also.
Lastly, another option is Lake Nippenicket which also has excellent parking and a ramp and is very convenient to route 24.
So what do you think, is it sacrilege to use sea kayaks on lakes?

Hi Chris and Kate.
For you die hard crazy cold water rollers....here is a new opportunity for you. According to this Norwegian weather station, you can actaully paddle to the North Pole this year! To find out how, just click on the link. I'll be happy to translate.

Cool! I plan on getting as close to it as I can this year - Newfoundland.
I wonder, if I paddled to the north pole and then tried to navigate my way back again - all directions would be south. I could end up in Norway. Or Siberia. Not much in the way of vegetarian cuisine there, so I hear....

Do you mean the boat ramp over by Nantasket Kayaks? (Or are they even open yet?)
No, I was talking about landing at the HIngham boat ramp to the right of where we usually launch. There is a small channel over there.

There is some kind of construction going on at the wharf the Nantasket Kayaks are located.. And they are not open yet. I take the ferry with the owner, Scott, so next time I see him I can find out when he plans on opening up this season.
I plan to join you guys, I'll be launching near my place in Hull though. And 5 is too early for me, I could launch by 5:30 and meet you on your way out of Hingham Harbor? Or I can always try and catch up. Do you do the same loop every time?
