If you go to google map and search for "Martins Ln and Surry Rd Hingham MA" you can see the location of the culvert on the aireal photo view.

We walk over that several times a week when we are out on Worlds End. They put it in to revive the marsh to its natural tidal state...and you should see the current when its high. Almost always a whirlpool on one side or another. Kind of freaks us out standing there looking at it....
This was bound to happen sooner or later. Stay clear.

Finn - what's it look like when the tide is coming out of the marsh? Might be a good place to practice if it just pushes you off the shore?

That sucks!! Sorry, Is this a spot that most people know about? You would think that the areas on both side of the pipe would be marked with some major signage. It would be nice if there could be a way of preventing anything like that happening again in the future. Are there Burmese tiger traps on Worlds End to?

It's a place to be avoided.
When the pond is draining as the tide goes out, there's a decent flow but its across a rocky sloping "beach." And there's not much to work with. For the first few hours, there's a whirlpool at the intake on the other side of the causeway. When the tide is near high...just stay clear, because the whirpool is likely to have switched sides and... as the two who made news yesterday found out...the intake on the ocean side is clearly treacherous.
No jokes or puns on this one. Stay away.

Like Ken asked, isn't this Deja Vu all over again? We read about this last summer, or am I dreaming? Who does this culvert belong to? Are they going to wait until someone dies? If anyone can find out who is responsible, I will be willing to write a letter or make a phone call.
