Sunset paddle Thursday Oct 6
Hi guys.
It is supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow (Thursday Oct 6). Anyone up for a sunset paddle? We could meet at the Driftway around 5:15 pm or so and go out to the Spit.
Duxbury Bay is also an easy launch, but I don't think there will be enough water there.
Any takers?
Bea

What type of boat/skill level is this trip? I would love to try and join, if that's possible - I'm not sure if there is a dues structure for the group - If so I've not yet officially "joined" -
Anyway, I'm the bloke with a SOT and access to sit-in's just curious which type of boat would be recommended.
Lastly, , can someone provide directions to the put-in location? I'm coming from central mass....
Thanks!
Bill

So what do you think?
Should we say Duxbury Bay is a go? If so, let's try and lauch from the Powder Point bridge around 5:15 pm tonight - 5:30 at the latest.
Don't know if we should try and paddle up the Back River (might not have enought water) or out in to the bay. Makes no difference to me.
This will be a short paddle as it gets dark pretty early. We'll probably be on the water for an hour or so.

Well, like Nelson said, it's a long way from Central Mass for what probably won't be much longer than a 1 - 1.5 hour paddle, but we'd love to have you with us, SafetyBill.
Directions:
Rt 128 South to end.
South on Rt 3.
About 20 miles to exit #11.
Right off ramp onto Rt 14.
After less than a mile, you'll have to fork right to stay on Rt 14.
Cross Rt 3A (traffic light).
About a mile down, the road will end at an intersection with a flagpole in the middle.
Left onto Washington St.
First right onto Powder Point Ave.
Follow this till you get to Powder Point Bridge (about a mile). This is a very long wooden bridge that spans Duxbury Bay. Don't cross it.
Parking is on the right.
If I've screwed up any of these directions, someone please correct me.

It's times like these that make me wish I had a more flexible work schedule. Alas, at 5:15PM this afternoon I will (if I am lucky) just be exiting the Tip O'Niell Tunnel southbound on the I-93 Southeast Expressway and it will take me another 25 minutes or so to navigate the remaining 11 miles to my home in Quincy.
Enjoy yourselves!
Enjoy yourselves!

I do enjoy coaching. I also enjoy watching my son and the Weymouth Wildcat Marching Band in competition. He plays trumpet. Dance recitals have worn thin with me at this point. The school band concerts are pretty good too. My daughter plays the clarinet.

Sorry all! I couldn't make it tonight, but thank you all for the great feedback - You were right, a drive from Worcester for an hour trip might not have been easy, but my little one (all of 6 months) made up her mind that Daddy wasn't going out tonight....That, and I forgot I was on babysitting duty so my wife could have a well-deserved "girl's night out"
If not this season, I will definitely be joining you all on trips next season for sure - From the short time I've been on this board, <1 week, you have all come across as simply wonderfully fun people to paddle with -
Hope you all had fun tonight, gorgeous night to be on the water...

As expected, it was shorter than any of us would have liked, but it had its moments. The wind was quite a bit stiffer than I'd expected. On the north side of the bridge, it wasn't too bad, but on the south side, there was some serious chop. Ron did a little pre-exploration while waiting for the rest of us, and he saw some two-foot chop. Quite a few whitecaps out there.
Clouds moved in at the last minute, ruining the visuals on the sunset.
Bea got a little taste of The Dark Side, and I think she'll be joining us in the rough stuff once she gets a little rescue training.
