Winter gathering - Jan 17th - you're invited!

Post by Lance »

Anyone interested in a potluck dinner party? Kath and I would like to host. She and I will cook up a bunch of food, including a few desserts. The kitchen will be available for on-site cooking, if that's your thing. And we've got the gear needed to show any videos, photos, etc. that anyone might like to bring along.

Spouses, friends and others invited too, of course.

6-7PM start time?

NB: We do have four cats (I think that makes us technically, if not legally insane). You probably won't see them, but if you have allergies you'll likely know that they've been around.

Also, we live in Easton, MA (45 Gilmore Rd.), which is depressingly far from salt water. So it will be a bit of a trek for those who live on the actual "South Shore." But if we have as much fun as we did at Mark's last year, it will be worth the trip.

Lance & Kath,

Count me in! Sounds great.

Love to make some chilli, and or bring a dessert :)

Thank you for hosting!

I'm tentative. I have something planned for that day that might fall through.

Chip, Nelson, Kate -

Hope you can all make it.

Kate - I'm making nothing but vegetarian. Hope that inducement helps you decide (I'm thinking Asiago arancini, maybe mushroom puff pastries...yum).

And my stuff will be every bit as hot as Chip's.

I just checked my calander and seem to be free that day. I am no cook, but will bring some cheese and crackers.

Is it a requirement that you had to have actually paddled in 2008 in order to attend?

NK - Of course. Come on over. However, we being omnivores...it could be a pot "outta' luck" night for you!

Steve - Come! Bring a disc of photos. Nobody's gonna complain about when you took any of your photos.

Gosh, I'm sure we all knew that.

What surprised us, (well, me at least) was that Mrs. Franklin was still alive.

RNF -

Can I entice you to join us by whipping up a colonial era dessert? Hasty pudding, perhaps?

Just checking in for a show of hands. If I'm not mistaken we have Chris, Chip and Ron as definites, and Nelson and Kate as possibles. Jordan has told me he and Karen can't make it that evening.

So...I wonder if the choice of a three day weekend or woefully landlocked Easton is problematic. Anyone else planning to drop by?

Lance - I'm planning to try to come. I don't think my wife will be coming with me - she is busy with youth basketball volunteer work on Saturdays. I'll try to whip together a slideshow with my kayaking pictures from 2008. I'm keeping busy with volunteer video taping of Abington High school sports - I'll be covering 16 games in the next 11 days. A chance to get away and talk about kayaking will be a nice break.

Hi Lance
I am back to a maybe. I have some family things come up and can't commit to that date right now.

Chip -

So then...you're a downgrade from something "hot" to something..."tepid?"

Let's see how this goes. I'm afraid that maybe we scheduled this a little too soon after the holidays and folks are still a little burned out.

Or maybe people are afraid that my paddling "skills" are contagious?

Lance, for me it's that we are squarely into ski season and weekends are the only opportunities I get to ski. This messes up my social life (such as it is) every winter which leaves me squarely on everyone's B or C list. If the skiing is crappy up north, I'm delighted to come to your party - but can't commit to it. Want to change it to a skiing party?!?

Don't know what everyone else's lame excuses are :-0

Lance,
I appreciate you putting the offer out there to host a bunch of Turkeys. We had a great time last year at Mark's. It seems like it may have just been a case of bad timing.

Would you consider rescheduling until February sometime??

Nelson -

Kath has pointed out that since it is a three day weekend it may be one that people are using for activities such as...(wait for it, Kate)...skiing! Particularly a group of people who like to stay active in a variety of activities apart from beer drinking and eating (go figure). So it may indeed just be a bad choice of weekends.

However, even though it's currently a small group of people who have said "yes" so far, let's keep the "17th" alive...at least for a few more days to see if anyone else checks in with a "yes."

If it stays a very small group as it is now, maybe we'll all decide to bag it, or maybe instead to go out for food and a few drinks, or maybe Kath and I will just grill pizzas at our place for the group. If that turns out to be the case, we can always try to revive the idea of a WTP gathering with a pot luck dinner for a little later in the winter.

Sound reasonable?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I also have a conflict on the 17th. Thanks for the invite, though.

Postponement

Post by Lance »

Personal schedules, etc. have gotten in the way here. Very few people are evidently available to get together on Jan 17th. So, let's postpone it indefinitely and see if we can put it together sometime just before the paddling season starts.

I hadn't logged on in a while and just saw this. I think getting everyone together would be a great idea! I'll have to keep an eye out to see if you plan something in the future. I'm a newbie here so I'd love to be able to meet some of you and learn from you as well!
