Thursday Night Hingham Paddles - 2011

Post by kayakerjnj »

Greetings All,

It's that time of year again to get things going on Thursday evenings.

The 28th looks like a cooperative tide to start the alternating Thursday Night Paddles.

Early season we shoot for a 5:30 PM launch and as daylight progresses we push back to 6:00 PM.

LOCATION: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.245651,-70.886216&num=1&sll=42.245354,-70.883591&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=42.245314,-70.885393&spn=0.003217,0.006968&z=18

With start to the season the water is still cold and as such you need to have appropriate cold water attire and safety proficiency to be out and about in the ocean.

We're looking forward to a great paddling season ahead with our expanding membership.

See you soon!

Sounds great...a good opportunity to finally use all that hydroskin crap that I find way too hot during the rest of the season.

Hopefully the weather will hold out for this Thursday 4/28, and we can kick off the first Thursday Night gathering.

Keep you fingers crossed :)

The weather is looking sketchy for tomorrow evening with Thundershowers and rain predicted. If it's lousy out we'll try for May 12th.

Cheers

I'm going to think positive and plan to bring my boat to work tomorrow...unless the forecast gets much worse on the 6:00pm news tonight. Worst case we can make the decision from the beach and go to dinner early at Stars instead of paddling. That's my attitude! :)

The wind blew and the lightning was blue, but we had a good table to watch it all in STARS tonight.

Let's hope May 12th will favor us with some good weather to enjoy the evening.

I was down at the harbor around 5:20 or so, stopped by the beach, and saw Norm's car with the kayak...but no Norm. You guys must had already thrown the towel in exchange for some brewskis.

The season is young.

The second attempt at a Thursday Night paddle in Hingham Harbor turned out the opposite from the first attempt. This time the weather improved throughout the day rather than worsening. The huge offshore storm finally moved away enough for the wind to die down at the coast and by launch time it was beautiful. It was surprisingly calm as we made the standard trip out and around Bumpkin Island. A few people have started mooring their boats, but the harbor is still mostly empty.

Five people made it for the paddle - Jordan, Tracey, Bruce, Norm and Tim. A new member, Tim, got stuck in traffic but saw us from the beach after we had headed out and he managed to catch up with us before we got out to the open water. Everyone had proper cold water and safety gear. The water temp was pretty chilly and a few people wore gloves. Nobody practiced rolling. The trip was shorter than I thought - the GPS track says we only did 5.7 miles.

Bea, Lora and Alice joined us for dinner at Stars after the paddle. The Southwestern Salad is the big hit meal at Stars lately...

Here are a couple pics to show how nice the weather was - Tracey and Jordan on the way out and then Bruce and Tim on the way back in.

Jordan,

I'm anticipating, that I won't be able to get out of work, in time, tonight, for the paddle,
but I would like to join everyone afterwards at Stars.
