Website redesign sneak preview

Post by pat »

Recently, statistics have indicated that the national usage of Internet Explorer 6 has dropped below 3%. For a very long time, I've been shacked by many of the bugs and shortcomings of IE6, but I've decided to stop worrying about it and hope that the remaining stragglers will upgrade soon.

And so I'm redesigning the WTP website. It's almost seven years old at this point, and before it has to apply for Medicare, I thought I'd give it an update. (btw - if any of you are still using ie6, this new site is going to look absolutely dreadful.)

The general shift to higher speed connections has also given me the freedom to include some fairly large images in the new design. It should look good on monitor resolutions of 1024x768, but should look especially good on the newer widescreen HD monitors.

So here it is:

http://www.wtpaddlers.org

Beware that there will certainly be a lot of broken links, as I haven't recreated all of the pages yet. Also, the jury is still out on the design of the blue WTP logo at the top and the grey title graphics. Not completely sure about those yet.

My intention is to put different background images on as many pages as possible. With 37 trip report pages, this won't be completely possible, but I'll add as many as I can. At this point, almost all the trip reports have the same image.

I'll continue to work on the site and hopefully make it live by next week sometime.

Edit: New site is live.

Schweet!

Great work, as always, and much appreciated by those of us who benefit.

Don't worry about Medicare...the way things are going it won't be around much longer. That's why I'm stocking up on magical crystals, exotic herbal potions, and spare cash for lottery tickets. Gotta plan for the future... :P

I've tried to use appropriate photos for all the paddling spot pages, but I have absolutely nothing for Plymouth. All I got is pictures close to shore of the Mayflower and whatnot.
