I get these things all the time. Nigerian princes, lawyers executing estates from my middle eastern relatives, cousins from Uganda, desperate friends of friends in Zambia, Kenyan bank agents, South African lottery officials, philanthropists in Mumbai, Ukranian entrepreneurs, church people from Timbuktu....I should be a gazillionaire several times over by now. Strange that I never hear from actual acquaintances though. What's up with that??? Maybe I should actually visit all these places to meet these people.
I particularly like the ones that start with "Dearest beloved..." Of course, you can always trust someone who calls himself "Mr. John"...
