Optimizing site for mobile devices

Post by pat »

Hi folks,

I'm in the process of slowly optimizing the website for mobile devices (smartphones and the like). This will take a while, but one quick thing that many will appreciate is that I've installed a mobile phone "style" for the forum. This is a very minimalist style that keeps the text wrapped within your display while allowing large images to expand full width. You can still scroll around to see them.

To switch to this template style, do the following:

  • Make sure you're logged in
  • Go into "User Control Panel" (small text link on upper-right)
  • Click "Board Preferences" on the left
  • Change "My Board Style" to "Artodia: Mobile and SEO"
  • Click the "Submit" button

And there you have it. I'm going to research if it's possible to put some sort of a toggle for those that check the forum on both desktop and mobile, but I don't hold out much hope for that.

I'm also in the process of converting the regular website pages, and I'll let you know once a few of them are ready.

Supposedly, the forum can auto-detect mobile devices. I'm just struggling to get that working properly.
