Winter gathering locations

Post by pat »

A few weeks back on a Thursday night, a few of us were sitting in our boats in Hanson talking about winter flock gatherings. It was pointed out that this is something we used to do from time to time, but in the past few years, aside from Ron's annual soiree, we don't do that much anymore.

I was thinking that a terrific location might be someplace in the Marshfield area, but Chip and Nancy might vote more toward the Weymouth area, while Tracey would prefer something out in West Bananapeel where she lives.

So... The point of this thread is to get a feeling of where all the attendees are located and maybe we can determine what would be a centralized location that would make for the shortest overall commute.

If you truly believe that you'd attend something like this, please chime in with your home town. Yes, yes, I know that many of you are going to say "I don't care where it is. I'll be glad to drive anywhere." Save it. Tell us your location. Also... Only reply if you're 90% sure you'd come to one of these.

I think we'd probably be thinking of dinner at a not-terribly-expensive restaurant that has the capacity to seat a couple dozen people together on a Saturday night. No idea when we'd do this, but probably once the main paddling season ends and we're not sick of each other anymore.

Well, first Pat, thanks for the post! Although the concept of "Winter" is a tad chilling (pun intended), we are looking forward to this years' gathering in any reasonable local!

Please keep me in the loop. I am probably a level 2 plus paddler. Can do around 15 miles. Have a drysuit and helmet. Is it drysuit time yet? Or is a wetsuit suitable? Thanks.

I'll miss anything at least through the end of the year. I fell off of a ladder, dislocated and broke my shoulder, and uncovered some hereditary heart issues. Alot to learn there. At this point, I cannot drive, and likely won't be able to until the end of December. I also need to cancel the Christmas party I was going to have - will still be one handed then- and lefty at that! Have fun everyone.

kayakkicks, welcome to Wild Turkey Paddlers!

This specific thread is actually about just getting together socially during the off-season, sans kayaks.

As far as keeping you in the loop, we don't have any mechanism to do that. You'll just have to keep an eye on the forum from time to time. You *can* subscribe to the Upcoming Trips section to be notified of all posts there if you'd like.

With most precincts reporting in, the current map looks like this:

Image

So it appears that the most centralized location is... Camp Kiwanee!! Which means we'll be eating at Venus III.
(Just kidding, Tracey.)

I'm quite sure that this map is a simple "as the crow flies" locator, and doesn't take into account driving. But if you'd like to play with the map, it's here:

I think the "center of minimum distance" is actually Norm's house.

Looks like British Beer Company in Pembroke might be a fair location. That should make Nelson happy!

Realistically, it's looking like the Rockland area might be as central as we could get.
