Second Hingham Thursday Night Paddle

Post by norm »

Current long range forecast for this Thursday is for temps in the 50's and high winds from the Northwest.
Marine forecast: THU NW WINDS 15 TO 20 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 KT. WAVES AROUND 2 FT. (Diminishing a little in the evening)

Anybody else up for a workout night on the water?

High Tide this Thursday is at 8:14pm and sunset is at 7:35pm, so I think we'd want to be on the water by 5:00pm at the latest.

Proper cold water gear and rescue skills are absolutely required with the water temperature still being in the 40's and the rough conditions that are likely this week.

I really wish I could have gone out Monday but I had a dentist appointment :(

I'm starting to re-think this idea of going out in Hingham Thursday. I think the forecast worsened. There are now going to be gale warnings through Thursday evening. With the wind direction, it might be a surf launch off the beach too. Not so appealing in 43 degree water.

I might re-consider and do something else Thursday evening.

Would anyone still be interested in meeting for PPR?

I'd be interested. I think that without the kayaking, traveling to Hingham Harbor adds some unnecessary distance for most people.

I am definitely not paddling Thursday night this week. Forecast even worse than before:

Thu
NW winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. Waves around 2 ft.
Thu Night
NW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt... diminishing to 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt after midnight. Waves around 2 ft.

I won't be around for the PPR. I hope you all get together somewhere and have fun.

Norm - just curious... If the conditions were the same, but the water was at summer temperature, would you paddle?

I might give it a try, in summer, for a few hours, if I was feeling strong and needed time on the water.
