Thursday Non-Hingham Paddles at Monponsett To Start Season?

Post by norm »

Ken W. and I were talking about the possibility of starting the non-Hingham Thursday evening paddles early, before the water warms up, and instead of going to the Camp Kiwannee pond in Hanson, go a little further down the road to Monponsett Ponds. The thought is that we could still work on stroke skills and conditioning to get in shape for longer weekend trips.

We were going to post this message to propose this idea for today, May 1, but then the forecast looked like it would still be rainy. Now it looks like it might clear up enough to be ok for paddling. Would anybody be interested in going to Monponsett this evening if the weather clears? I could probably get there between 4:30 and 5:00 if traffic is not bad..

I see 'East Lake' and 'West Lake' with Monponsett Rd (rt 58) between them. Is that the place? I won't be there tonight, but am game to try in 2 weeks. But I confess, I like the place we used to go to.

Josko - yes, that's the place. There is a state boat ramp there with a nice parking lot. There are a couple spots to launch car-topped boats away from the boat ramp. There is a culvert connecting the two ponds that you can get through fairly easily - had to duck a little last week but passable. If you do a circle of the shoreline of both ponds, you can travel about 6 miles.

Here is a link to a Google Map image with the boat ramp parking lot marked with a "B".

Pat - does this mean you are planning to head over to Monponsett today?

I'm wondering whether to try and rush out of work at 3:00 to meet people to paddle or just plan to work on fixing a broken fence gate when I get home...

How about one more Thursday at Monponsett before our first Skills Session of the season. 5/15

Unless things go south this week, I'll be there for a paddle and pizza

See you between 4:30 - 5:00 PM.

Please let us know if you're coming.

Have a great week.

Here is the closest I'll probably get to a boat this week. Tried to do a selfie with Helen at a sculpture of canoes at some hotel in Vegas. We need more practice at selfies.

Saw some jet boats from a distance at Hoover Dam today. Then no water for 150 miles in the desert of Arizona. Train to Grand Canyon tomorrow.

Hope Billy didn't trash the house with his friends after the Bruins lost...his first party at home alone.

On second thought, all my stuff is buried in the garage including my boats. You guys will probably be done before I can get there. Put me down as doubtful. I will at least get everything accessible for next time.

Yes. Definitely having fun. Still can't get selfie's right but will keep trying. Will have to ask Briggsy for tips.
Thanks for the recommendation for El Tovar Jordan. Dinner was great. Going out to watch sunset now.

Hi Norm, Happy you had a good time. I can't wait to see your pictures.

Do you still have plenty of memory for the Canon? I got to believe the card is seeing never before utilized storage

Enjoy the rest of your trip!
