place to stay when paddling hingam?

Post by normnott »

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Boston Harbor this fall. I have a small travel trailer that I tow (16-17 ft). I'd like a place to park my trailer for a week while I explore the harbor islands with my little homemade baidarka. I'd prefer the south side of the harbor - Hingam etc.

I'm not having much luck looking for rv parks etc. online.

Would anyone happen to know a safe/nice place to stay? Maybe some of the parks might allow overnight parking? I don't need hookups.

Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Norm

Wow, there are not many camp grounds around here.
Plymouth is a little south but that is about where the camping begins.
You can try Indian Head in Plymouth

and also Myles Standish state park, there are several others here in Plymouth as well.

Wampatuck S.P. Is a good choice. It is less than 5 miles from Hingham Harbor. You can book It on Reserve America. You have a choose of elec. or non elec. Nice clean Woodsie place. If you have a bike bring it, there is miles of paved or dirt trails. Oh ya there is a lake you can kayak on all so.

I don't think so, but you will have to ask the Manager of that store. Each Walmart is different.

hi Norm
I stay at Ellis Haven in Plymouth. This is a good sized full service private campground with very easy access to RT 3. It is 22 miles from RT 18 to RT 44 in Plymouth. There are very nice beaches and put-ins along the South Shore including Hingham. Wompatuck, in Hingham is the only one around other than some in Plymouth.
See you on the water!

Here's another vote for Wompatuck State Park if you want to make the most of the South Shore...and enjoy your stay while not on the water. Accessible to the best put-in points in Hingham, Weymouth, Cohasset, Scituate...and a relatively easy drive further south to the Plymouth area. Great bicyling opportunities, hiking in the largest contiguous wild area in the region, food and supplies nearby...and fairly easy to get up into the city if you like. It's a good spot.

Hi,

Thank you for all your suggestions.

I checked Wompatuck State Park on line and that seems like the best bet for me.

I'm planning a trip in early Sept. Maybe I'll be able to meet up with folks in your club so you can give me some pointers about paddling the harbor islands :-)>

Thanks,
Norm
