Blending and reviewing strokes etc.

Hello Wild Turkeys. Curious if there is chatter about a skills evening happening again this year. I know there has been a number of skilled paddlers that have been generous with their time and energy over the years at these sessions. I do not want to step on toes. My schedule has changed recently and now I will be around most of the year. I would be happy to lead or co-lead some skills sessions. Reviewing and blending strokes, rescues for incapacitated paddlers, navigation, managing surf landings etc. I'm no Freya Hoffmeister but, I've been around the block a few times. I'll keep my eyes on the site to watch for interest and will certainly yield to those who have been active in this department. Thanks - Doug Lowry

Happy to hear that you'll be around more often this year Doug! Bea and I were just talking about Hanson Skills Sessions with some kayakers we ran into while hiking the other day. It will be nice to have your skilled help and smiling face out on the pond this season and maybe get out for something different at other venues to learn and practice something new.

Jordan is the one that usually posts the invitation to Hanson and it is normally listed in the Skills and Training forum. Last year we started around mid-May. A couple years ago, I did some paddles around Monponsett Ponds a few weeks before the skills sessions started, when the water was still a little too chilly to consider wet skills practices.

Looking forward to getting out on the water soon now that there is plenty of evening daylight!

Hi Doug,

You are welcome anytime to join us at our Skills Sessions - paddles, and we'll be happy to absorb and glean all that we can from your vast paddling experiences.

The more the merrier!

As Norm said, we'll be posting a start date for these, that will coincide with low tide at Hingham, starting in early May.

See you soon!

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the offer. Anything you can add would be great. I think it would be great to get some controlled practice in some conditions. I know Johnnysmoke has done some things in the past. And just for the record, I have seen Freya Hoffmeister and you are 100% correct.
