Maine trail around Schoodic & Petit Manan

Post by JeffB »

Looking to paddle downeast later this summer and the stretch from Acadia around Schoodic, past Petit Manan to Bois Burbert is a 23-28 mile stretch, depending on where you start. That is a long day, particularly with two heads to get around. The only public island for camping is Dry, "an opportunity to picnic or camp in adverse conditions" (I think MITA guide means this is a place to camp if desperate). OceanView sounds like a terrific campground, but was to be sold on Ebay last September and I can't find its current status (anybody know something?). An ideal campsite would be Frazer point picnic area in NPS Schoodic pennisula area. It has nice landing, grassy area for tents, bathrooms, tables, but of course, day use only. The Schoodic Woods campground is not designed for kayakers - it is 1/2 mile from the water.

Jeff,
Overnight spots up in that area are sparse. I’ll be passing through that area in mid-July. We plan to stay on Dry I. then paddle to our pull out in Milbridge 14nm.
