Paddle for Poverty Fundraising Event

Post by eweisslinger »

Mir Pace International, sponsored in part by the Cohasset Rotary Club, will hold its third annual Paddle for Poverty fundraising event at Steamboat Wharf Marina in Hull, MA, on July 14, 2007. The Paddle For Poverty is a kayak race (or any type paddleboat), open to all ages, and includes two courses. A long course (approximately 3 miles) will begin at 9:00 a.m. off Steamboat Pier, continue out beyond Sunset Point, around Bumpkin Island, and return to the finish line at Steamboat Pier. The short course, beginning at 9:15 a.m., will also begin off Steamboat Pier and circle twice around buoys set in the inner bay. The pre-race entry fee is $20, and $25 if registering the day of the race. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m.

Mir Pace International is a local nonprofit organization providing humanitarian relief and development programs to children and families in third-world countries, suffering the devastating effects of poverty, while fostering cultural understanding and volunteerism through International High School Mission (“IHSM”) programs. Mir Pace’s IHSM program goals are not only to introduce high school student volunteers to other cultures, but to also expose them to “poverty” at a level previously unknown to them. Subsequently, IHSM volunteers return home to the United States more appreciative of their own personal comforts and surroundings, profoundly gratified by having helped others less fortunate, and with the realization that they can make a positive difference in their community and in the world.

The proceeds raised through the Paddle for Poverty will help Mir Pace to bring life-saving solutions to children and families of Tanzania, E. Africa during our July 2007 IHSM program. Registration forms for the Paddle for Poverty are available at www.mirpace.org/Paddle3.htm or by calling Eileen Weisslinger at 781-925-0090.

Hope you come out and join in the fun for a great cause!
