We "cool ones" did have a great time tonight at the "Metrowest Skills Session"- Lora, Astrid, Bev and Crayolabarb, but of course missed the rest of YOU!
Great little lake: warm, easy access and we basically had it to ourselves.
Lora was outstanding as our instructor, taking Astrid and I through a very well thought out series of skills. Bev found out that the lake is exactly a mile long- I think that's what he said, I had water in my ears.
Lora and Bev really did attempt magic tricks in their changing robes- Lora's is the "real deal" with little pockets inside for keeping undies warm and "close at hand", Bev's is truly psychedelic and impressive- and while he didn't use it for changing tonight it was noted that we will want be sure to stay in FRONT of him when he actually is changing as it has that "hospital gown" thing going at the rear ;->
Astrid is heading to Norway tomorrow- safe and happy trip Astrid!
Buddy the sweet Beagle (Bev's) made his appearence.
A good time was had by all! Hoping we can do it again in 2 weeks and that more "cool ones" will join in the merriment.
Happy paddling!

Indeed we had a good session last night. Lots of really good work performed by all. While Bev was off distance training, I was happy to share the improve your roll clinic drills I was recently taught with the rest of the group. I've added my own twist to them as well and was pleased to see how well the group progressed throughout the session. I think I'm not remembering the last drill quite properly though and will work on that for the next time
We had a fun night - despite the rain. Thanks to Lora for holding an impromptu rolling clinic! Everyone definitely benefitted. Astrid and a camera are a dangerous combination! (but thanks for posting the pics!)
The Ashland lake is a good spot - big enough for people who want to explore a bit, it is 1 mile long, and warm for the rollers in the group. I don't know where Lora got her boat, but she should take it back - it must be defective because it appears to have shrunk after getting wet and now is about 3 feet long!
Just found this forum, and this is my first post. I've taken several kayaking lessons, and did my first all-day sea kayak trip, and now I'm hooked. My wife and I just did a back-half season pass from Charles River, which gives us each 15 days of off-site rentals (try before you buy). So I have 15 off site's to burn, and this might be a great way to make sure I go through them. Looking forward to hearing about the next skill session, as I'd love to get involved.
This week, I have to fly out Tuesday night to PA for a Lab Wednesday Morning for work. So I'll be on plane while you guys are rolling around in the water in Ashland.
Hope Astrid had a great trip and Lora has had a blast in her "little shoe" boat! Just returned last night from seeing family in Ohio, and off on THE TRIP to Alaska tomorrow for 2 weeks. Hope to be able to join you one of these days. Maybe an August Full Moon Paddle?
Have fun- safe travels too Jordan!

Sounds like it's going to be quite rainy tomorrow. I know kayaking is a wet sport, but is anyone actually going to go? We can move it to next week if there is a quorum. -A
If I don't hear back from anyone before 4 (which is when I have to leave), I'm going to bail and finish something up at work. I'd prefer to paddle, but someone has to bring home the bacon to support my playtime. And the kitty doesn't bring mice or bacon, so..... -A
I should be free for these again after Labor Day - kids back at college/school etc. Maybe we can get a good turnout for an early September evening followed by Thai food or some other delight!
Anyone planning on doing Ashland tomorrow? I am going rain or shine - and by that I mean if it is raining I ain't going! But - weather looks good an the boat is already loaded.
If it is nice I actually plan on getting there early (4 ish) and putting in a few quick laps up and down the lake.
I plan to go tonight. Unfortunately, I can't come early. 6 is the best I can do. Sorry you still can't make it, Jordan and Laura. I think this is likely the ultimate session as it is getting dark early.
Can't promise any rolls, Jordan, but I'm happy to say that I am starting to unfreeze the hip muscles that have been bothering me, so that should help. See you there, Bev (and hopefully you too, Jane)(and anyone else who wishes to show). We're still on for PPR at the Thai restaurant? -A
