video taping

Post by cgr »

I took a class at zoar this past week and we were videotaped 3 or 4 of the days. Watching your self perform strokes was helpful to see whether or not you are rotating your torso or muscling with your arms. It was also good to see improvement in people after a couple of days, at least while the camera was on. Now it is just a matter of making those improvements full time, and in all water.

Another useful trick was a strip of duct tape across your bow to show you how far you should be extending to plant your paddle. At first you start reaching for that, eventually just seeing the tape reminds you to keep reaching for it.

Anyway - I've got a bunch of things to work on in flatwater now.

I'm guessing Dragon's Tooth.

Hey Chris, there is plenty of video around of you paddling onto the Cohasset Wave. Maybe you should review it.

Wait, maybe I should review some of that, too.

That is Zoar Gap - we were there Sat & Sunday for a bit. There was a van full of unhappy campers when we passed the dryway on the way up to the reservoir.

The video was of us trying to maintain correct form, and I know how sloppy I am at cohasset.

In this picture I could have made it high enough into the eddy on river right I was looking where I wanted to go and rotated my torso along with the boat. Because I was looking at the rock or hole just below it I didn't get securely into the eddy.

I think any video of me paddling would resemble an old Bennie Hill video...
