Skills and Training - Hanson - Aug 14

Post by pat »

Since there's always confusion around the time when we shift the schedule a week, I'm posting this a little early.

This Thursday, we'll be having a skill session in Hanson. Forecast shows for very nice weather, but possibly breezy, so we might be able to get in some rough water practice. Swells could reach two to three inches.

Doctor said No to rescheduling, huh? The man doesn't appreciate the value of rescue skills.

A lot of work was being done on rolling at Hanson this week. A little goofing around play was happening also.
Follow this link to see a video of Bea and Ken doing an on-water swap of boats where they crawl out of the cockpits onto their decks and transfer themselves into the other boat.

Along with learning to roll work, there was a break taken by a few of us to perform the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Bea nominated Chip, Tracey and me to perform the challenge. Chip did the challenge at home. Tracey and I did the challenge at the pond after already spending a couple hours working on our rolls. I brought a bucket and bought 2 bags of ice on the way to the pond. You may not see the ice cubes well in the video, but I assure you there was 10 pounds of ice in there for each challenge and it was allowed to mix with the water for 5 minutes to make it very cold. Tracey did the challenge while standing in the pond with Bea above her on the dock. I did the challenge in a borrowed whitewater kayak and then did a roll afterwards.

See Tracey's video at this link: https://vimeo.com/103505933
