The forecast was partly sunny, 70F and 13 mph wind, so I posted the trip without expecting many takers. After all, it is almost November. But Briggsy was up for it, and Ron jumped in very last minute. This all lined up to be a good day!
Briggsy has left the Cape in rain and fog, but in Duxbury the sun is always shining, all children are smart and every day feels like Fourth of July!.
We lined up our yellow p&h boats for a group hug, and were saying how great they looked and that they should be in a commercial together!!!
But then Chris showed up unannounced and that screwed up the color scheme!
However, he said he felt entitled to be on the trip because of his yellow straps and yellow smily face sponge! And how can you turn away a guy with such bright smile and sunny personality. We felt the love, and said OK!
We headed across Duxbury bay with Gurnet light as our beacon. We paddled past some interesting seascapes which I wanted to take pictures of.
Chris, however, was getting impatient. A while back he had seen the Swedish Bikini Team sunbathing on a hidden beach by the Gurnet check point, and he needed to see if they were still there. Sorry boys, NO pictures. If you need more details, ask Chris next time you see him!
We continued out past Clark Island, and admired some of the nice homes and boat houses.
We continued around Saquish point. I love this part of Duxbury Bay/Plymouth Harbor.
Heading out Plymouth Harbor we could see the Gurnet light again, and were contemplating paddling out past the cliff to get a good look at the lighthouse.
But Ron was getting hungry, and that should not be taken lightly. He asked me what we would see if we kayaked all the way out, and I told him the lighthouse sits on a steep rocky cliff, and that he was not missing much!
So we headed for the shore and a much needed lunch break.
All of a sudden we heard an announcement over a speaker system, and I thought someone was telling us to get OFF their beach. But that didn’t really make any sense to me. Did they have someone monitoring the beach 24/7? And why would they kick a nice group of kayakers off the beach? We had only stopped for navigation purposes!!! Well it turned out that the Pilgrim Power station was testing their public announcement system. After that I felt a lot better, and enjoyed the rest of my lunch.
On the way back we got into some exciting conditions, but with good size boats and tight spray skirts we all had big (happy) grins on our faces! Too much texture to take out the camera.
We pretty much retraced our steps except paddling on the west side of Clark Island.
As we were getting closer to the put-in Ron made comments that he could not see my car, but he would be happy to give me a ride home!!
THE END

Wish I could have gone too! (but I don't have a yellow kayak)
Love your two seascape photos. I've often looked at such locations thinking there should be some way to capture them, but have never managed it.
And of course the No Vehicles Beyond photo - awesome!

Norm, when you're retired you have nothing but time...
Nice report Bea. Where were those seascape shots taken?

You can't get there in a sailboat, Nelson! Still interested?
