The North & South Rivers Watershed Association’s 21st Annual River Challenge – also known as “the Great River Race” took place on July 31, 2011. The Wild Turkeys were well represented at the race with several entries in misc. categories. The Wild Turkeys also assisted with the safety.
NSRWA promotes this 7 mile race as “fun, challenging and great way for an individual or the whole family to get out and enjoy and help us promote the rivers!”
Below are some of the photos I took from the race:
The launch area on the Norwell side of Union street bridge
Water safety briefing. Chip, Ron and Norm
Warm up before the race
Norm asking boaters if they are aware that a race is about to start. A few boaters were not, which made Norm feel very useful!!
Checking all safety gear and communication equipment. Cell photo coverage is spotty along the North River
Here is TIM - one of the first racers flying by!
And here is BEV -
Jack Z - are you in this picture???
Here is BOB -
SKIP - taking the time to wave hello
Skip in his well decorated Wild Turkey boat
Norm assisting racers who broke one of their paddles
the PLUM shirt patrole - Norm, Chip, Ron
Spectators along the river's edge
My favorite house on the river
Almost there - the finish line in sight!
Pat supervising the finish line and making sure all numbers are recorded.
Finish line - Chip, Joe, Norm and Ron
Indian Head take-out. Volunteers standing by to help
Award ceremony at McGreal's Tavern in Norwell Center
Samantha announcing the winners
Staying cool in the shade during the ceremony
Bev claims his first price
I didn't see the start of the race since we were station half way up the river. So if anyone has other pictures of interest, please add them....I know Norm has a few.....

Re: The Great River Race 2011
Not sure if that was me in the earlier kayaking picture but did find myself in the "Staying cool in the shade during the ceremony" picture. That's me, hand to chin, contemplating what I need to do to catch up to Bev next year!
It was a perfect day for the race and always grateful to the fellow Wild Turkeys who watch out for us. Thanks to all!

Good photos Bea. I pretty much have the same shots. I'll add the few I have that are different.
Bea lurking in the weeds near couch beach with her camera.
I think this one is Jack...passing on the right???
The audience watching the race from couch beach.
Tim after receiving his award.
It was a great day for the race. Just enough breeze to keep people cool in the heat. No disaster stories or grouchy people to deal with. A nice, quiet, fun day on the water.
