We finally launched at 10am and paddled out of the harbor and into the bay. It was a beautiful sunny day but the wind was more from the W than the forecast SW, in other words we were heading straight into it. At the mouth of Barnstable Harbor, the current was flowing out and the waves were beginning to build a little. The further along we got, the larger the waves got and the more the wind seemed to pick up. We got past the harbor entrance and were quite aways offshore so we started to head in. We were a little spread out at this point but everyone seemed to get the idea that it was time for a break. It took forever to finally make it to the beach on Sandy Neck and when we landed we decided to make it a lunch stop. I checked my GPS and found that our average speed was only 2.6kts and we had only travelled 7 miles or so and still had 11 to go. The smokestack at the Power Plant at the end of the canal looked like a toothpick on the horizon. The wind was still blowing and if we were going to continue it was going to be a long hard slog.
A decision was made and we agreed to head back to Sesuit harbor and try again another day. The plus side was that the waves we had slogged against now provided some fab surfing all the way back to the launch. I was definitely having a lot more fun heading back!!
Back in Sandwich we had PPR at Seafood Sams on the canal.

We still managed 15 miles paddling. Good to still be out in November enjoying the water.
