First Float Report

Saturday, May 20, 2006

Gene and Samantha Harriman
Our first paddle with our new Wilderness Systems Pungo Kayaks.

We've had two weekends with rainy weather and were itching to get out and play. I picked up the kayaks from Billington Sea Kayaks the night before. We sat looking at the boats sitting in the back yard and sighed. It was a little too late in the day to take 'em out, so we stowed them for the night and went to bed, dreaming about paddling.

Saturday morning dawned sunny with clear blue skies. We loaded the boats and equipment on the Blazer and headed out to Little Pond.

Sunscreen, PFDs, camera, paddles, jackets, towels, hat, whistles, sunglasses, drinking water, weather report and common sense. Check.

After an easy launch we headed out for a lap around the pond.

Halfway around I found a spotted turtle swimming on the surface. As I passed it started swimming towards the boat. I picked it out of the water and placed it on the bow hatch. It sat and sunned itself for fifteen minutes while we paddled about.

When it was dry and warmed up by the sun, we dropped it off at the shore. We dubbed the Pungo 140 'The Turtle'.

'Still don't have a name for Sammie's boat, but we're working on it.

We paddled separately, but I think the part I liked the best was when Sammie and I would meet and hold hands and chat and drift with the wind while we watched the clouds float by.

No sunburn, no capsizes, no rough water. 'Made for a great easy and enjoyable first float!

Looks like you had a good paddle on a nice pond. What pond was it, I know Plymouth has literally hundreds of them?

Welcome!
