John invited everyone for another moving water training session at the Cohasset wave for a Monday evening of fun and Chris was able to join also, to give us two excellent teachers. The participants were Tracey in her new Delphin Surf kayak, Steve and Abby, Ron and me, Norm. I apologize for all the pictures of the backs of people's heads, but I was there to participate in the paddling, so I wasn't always in the best spot for a good picture.
I'm not sure if Tracey was there for paddling or swimming. She did a lot of both, but she always came up with a smile.
Tracey gets flipped in the current and John heads over to help her.

Steve gets onto the wave with John's coaching.
Abby gets a turn on the wave.
Ron and Tracey watching Steve in the wave from an eddy on the left side.
Ron gets a ride on the wave.
Tracey flipped again, out in the middle of the current this time and got swept further out toward Steve. Chris and I followed as she held onto her boat and paddle. Chris asked Steve if he would like to practice an assisted rescue and Steve said yes, so he got some great experience helping Tracey as Chris coached him on what to do. We all drifted out in the current together and I snapped a few pictures.
After Tracey was safely back in her boat and the four of us paddled back toward the wave, we saw somebody else tip over and then successfully roll back up. When we got closer, we saw that it was Ron. Later on, Ron flipped again and I got to watch him execute another combat roll from close-up in the middle of the fast moving water. I didn't get any pictures as I was getting into position to give him my bow if he couldn't roll up.
Abby sitting in the right side eddy waiting for her turn.
The wave got bigger and harder for us rookies to get onto it, so we enjoyed watching John show us how it's done.
The sun started to go down and we all got together for a moment in the right side eddy.
As we left to head back to the take-out, the clouds looked like they were forming to provide a beautiful sunset. ( I failed to get a good sunset shot.)
Paddling back to Cohasset Harbor with Minot Light off in the distance.
I did a bunch of videos throughout the session. I was going to combine them all into one, but that would require firing up a different computer, so I took the easy way out and just uploaded ten individual videos to vimeo.com so you'll need to click on each link or check them out from my vimeo page after selecting the first one. The clicking noise happens when I zoom in and out with this camera. I did not get out of my boat to shoot the videos. These are shot while bobbing around in eddys. Sorry Abby, I didn't get a video of you.

I'm not at all surprised that Ron hit his roll twice. He has secretly been accumulating skill for some time. Okay Ron, time for some fun in the surf!
Congrats to all for giving that wave a shot. Excellent practice!

Thanks Norm for uploading the photos and videos. Was a good session, I hope everyone had fun. A few more sessions and folks will be ready for a new inlet surf experience, if we ever get any surf...
