Kayak Raffle

Post by kayakerjnj »

Greetings Fellow Paddlers and Friends,

Several of the Wild Turkeys have come together to raffle a kayak for a good cause. It is for one of us; one of our paddling friends is dealing with an extremely difficult health situation right now, and could use our help. As a matter of respect and privacy, we will not be posting our friend’s name in this forum.

So often when a friend or a family member is stricken with one of life’s greatest challenges we watch, feeling powerless, as we struggle to find something of meaning that we can do to help. Fortunately, we have come up with a way that we can all participate and express our desire to help.

The kayak we are going to raffle off is a P&H 2010 Cetus LV Carbon Expedition Layup with a factory Keel Strip and Compass. http://www.phseakayaks.com/kayaks.php?k ... 20176%20LV

It is turquoise over white, gently paddled the first couple of seasons, and very lightly the last two.

Here are the raffle mechanics:

• $25 for one (1) raffle entry

• Each additional $25 = another entry

• $100 gets 5 entries

All proceeds above and beyond the cost of the kayak, will be given to our fellow friend and paddler.

The link below is to the PAY Pal Account set up on our friend’s behalf. We will be posting a drawing date in the near future, so please stay tuned.

http://www.wtpaddlers.org/raffle.html

Our thanks go to You – the Paddling Community – a group I’m proud to be a part of.

Question-have the Turkeys already purchased the boat? What happens in the event that not enough money is raised from the raffle to cover the cost of the purchase?

Yes, Jordan has already paid for the boat and Jim and I committed to help him to cover the cost if the raffle is not successful enough.

Hi Lorrie,

Our goal is not only to cover the cost of the boat, but to far exceed it and forward all the proceeds.

Please pass the word along :D

Thank you!!

Awesome initiative, Jordan!

I just bought tickets and happy to buy more. Is there any way to see how much money is coming in, or will there be updates as we go along so we can chip in more if needed?

How would you like us to spread the word? Emails, Facebook, other suggestions. Like you said I hope we can generate funds above and beyond the value of the kayak.

What a lovely and incredibly generous and gracious thing to do, Jordan, Norm and Jim. Phil and I just purchased tickets, and have also shared on Facebook. I hope the funds raised far exceed the cost!

shared Suz's Facebook post to get this out to the wider world. Checking to see if it's OK to share on a couple of large kayaking Facebook groups as well. Good on the the three of you who bought the boat and organized this raffle!

FWIW I posted a link on facebook with a link as well. If everyone does the same I can't imagine how many paddlers will be contacted. Lots. Charity starts at home and you folks do paddlers proud with what you've started. You folks stepped up and faced terrible news with a warm embrace. Thank you.

Good luck.

I ordered raffle tickets for myself and for Mark. We both also reposted to our Facebook pages.

I suggest this post also gets reposted under the general forum. I would not have seen the post if I didn' t see it on Norm' s Facebook page. I don' t check the classified section as I'm not shopping. There may be more folks that focus on that section.

You are all amazing wonderful people. I cannot begin to express my feelings of emotion and being overwhelmed by such a wonderful community of fellow paddlers. I have a lot of faith that people are basically "good" - but this has far exceeded what I ever imagined. Thank you all for your support and concern. Keep up the paddling ! I'm living vicariously thru all of you !! smiles

Patty Kelliher is one of my workmates. I just told her she won.

She is not a paddler and does not have time for it, so the boat may be up for sale again if anyone is interested.

Dear all fellow wonderful kayakers,
And your friends and family,

I cannot express myself well enough to tell you all how overwhelmed I am by your good thots, prayers and postiive vibes and support you all have given me. What you have done will pay medical bills.

And soon my business will be sold (as I have tried but cannot stick to a consistent schedule to see my patients). I have tried to remotely operate and do admin work at home. And get into the office on a "good" day without too many side effects bothering me. This has worked but not well for the past 6 mos. So I have two buyers for the business and feel very lucky. But negotiations are tricky!

Wishing you all good health and happiness
Play hard - in the water!!!
I love all your FB and Trip report pictures....

If anyone knows what happens and where "Athena" ends up - I would love to know!

Thank you all so very very much
Hugs to all

I bet I am not the only person that called their credit card company to find out what this mysterious $100 charge to a company in California, for "Internet Services" that showed up on their statement this month.
I was ready to hit the Dispute button when the agent said "WTP", I said "oh never mind".

More good news to share!

It is with great pleasure to let everyone know our karma filled vessel the “Athena” has found a new home with a fellow Wild Turkey Paddler – Bea.

Our raffle winner Patty Kelliher had generously instructed us to re-sell the boat again, designating the proceeds to further our initial efforts.

Thanks to Patty’s magnanimous gesture, we were able to more than double our initial goal for fund raising goals to cover the initial cost of the boat.

We’re very happy to be able to conclude this endeavor on such a high note. The collective good will included not only our immediate paddling community, but many others near and far who were simply great hearted people that acted on their desire to help.

We’re deeply honored and grateful to be part of this community.

Thank you to all, for your caring and support!
