LakeFest 2013: Hands Across the Water!

Post by KSull58 »

The New Hampshire Lakes Association (NH LAKES) has an exciting event planned...LakeFest 2013: Hands Across the Water!

This fun, family-friendly event will be on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Weirs Beach in Laconia on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee – the largest lake in New Hampshire. While attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest canoe and kayak raft on a single body of water, we will also teach participants how they can prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species (like variable milfoil, zebra mussels, etc.).

We will be gathering boats at Weirs beach starting on Friday the 6th and as early as 7:00 a.m. on Saturday the 7th. Once you register for the event we will keep you updated on all final arrangements. On Saturday morning canoeists and kayakers will launch onto Lake Winnipesaukee from a variety of shoreline access points. Once all canoes and kayaks are assembled in the designated raft area – sometime between 10:00-11:00 a.m. - participants will raise their paddles and raft together for at least 30 seconds. The current world record, set by One Square Mile of Hope in 2012 in upstate New York, is 1,925 canoes and kayaks – our goal is to break the record with at least 2,000 boats! The rafting event will be followed by an on-land celebration at Endicott Rock Park in Laconia, featuring music, food, equipment vendors and other booths with information on lake ecology, protection, recreation, and more.

There will be canoe and kayak rentals and sales onsite!

Please register today at http://www.nhlakefest.org and mark your calendar for September 7th to join us for this great day of festivities!!

If you have any questions or want to support the event in any way, please call NH LAKES at 1-603-226-0299 or email info@nhlakefest.org
