Went out with my son Alex for a paddle after work today, thought we'd try the pond at Camp Kiwani for the first time - it's a few miles from the house. And who do we run into...

We will try to make the Thursday Hanson outings and meet everyone. We may come to Hingham on the alternate Thursdays, but will stay near the shore. Hope to see you there!

Nice to meet you out there last night.

Looking at your pictures makes me realize I need to slow down and enjoy the natural surroundings more, like I used to when I went out on ponds and rivers in the past. If you become obsessed with sea kayaking and get out on the ocean and do longer trips like I have been doing, you can get away from some of the things you originally enjoyed about being on the water. But there are different things to enjoy in the occasional excitement and thrills of being out on potentially big water. There are a lot more things you need to be prepared for as you venture out further also.

Enjoy the natural progression if you really catch the kayaking fever. Take advantage of the wealth of knowledge we can share with you along the way. Just come on over and ask questions on Thursdays or post them in a forum. It's hard for us to know what to share first with new-comers.

And, by the way, here is a link to the website I mentioned that has float bags for the front of your boats. http://www.nrs.com/category/2745/kayak-touring/outfitting

Hey Norm, nice to meet you also, and a few of the folks there. We'll definitely be asking questions and getting to know folks. Hopefully we can come to Hingham Harbor soon, although we won't go way out. I think we caught the bug, went out today and probably tomorrow. We were on Indian Head River coming back in this afternoon, and a couple of WTP folks came by - I had my camera in my face as usual and didn't even realize til after!

Regarding your comments on slowing down, some of it has to do with the photography bug, which I have also caught, so I paddle, but also look for shots. These lakes do have some surprises - the East Head Reservoir was very cool, lots of turtles and the Great Blue Heron standing in the midst of it all.

Thanks for the link - we measured the kayaks and are going to order the floats. We do need to learn the rescue skills, particularly with the cold water coming on, and any help WTP can provide, along with rudimentary skills, etc, will be appreciated.

Good to meet you and looking forward to more paddling with WTP.

Regards,

Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for sharing your photos and welcome to the WTPaddlers.

We run our skills sessions from late April through September (weather permitting).

You and your son are welcome to come and participate anytime. We have lots of people who have become great paddlers and good teachers.

We've been doing these sessions for many years and are open to anyone who's looking to learn and add the mutual enjoyment of all who attend.

Hope to see you again soon.
