Duxbury Bay - Sat 6/7

Post by Chip »

Looking to launch at noon from Howland's Landing. Probably paddle around Clarks Island. We'll play it by ear. 6-8 mile moderate pace.

I would recommend a minimum of a 13-14ft touring boat with a spray skirt. I am sure there will be a lot of traffic and boat wake. The water will still be pretty cold.

Directions for Howland's Landing can be found here.

Sounds like fun. Wanna start the trip early by going to Doug's Rock and Roll gig at the North End Tavern in North Plymouth Friday night?

I'm trying something that I hope will be helpful. I'm using Google Maps to create a database of kayak put-in locations. I've linked it into Chip's initial message. You should be able to click on the kayaker icon on the map to see a photo and a link to additional information. You should also be able to slide over to Powder Point Bridge and the North River and see additional locations.

The only thing that troubles me is that it seems to slow down the loading of the page. This might be because I've embedded images in there. If it continues to get worse as I add more locations, I might get rid of the photos. (That's a drag, cause I thought they were a nice addition.)

Well.....

Some free box seats to the Red Sox game have surfaced here...with friends we haven't seen for a while. The game is at 4:00...so it looks like I'm now out.

Frankly I'd rather be out on the water...but.....dammit. :x

Looks like a great day, too.

Dammit!

Have fun.

If there's not enough parking right there at the launch site, I'm sure we can drop off the boats, park most of the cars nearby and shuttle everyone back.

Looking forward to the paddle. If you want we can have PPR on our back deck. Fire up the grill or order some pizzas.......whatever. 10 minute drive from put-in.

Parking is pretty limited from this location. The overflow might need to leave from Powder Point.

Chip's first suggestion was from Powder Point. I told him I thought that getting ANY parking there would be near impossible at mid-day on a 90-degree Saturday. 'Course, when we were talking about this, Saturday was supposed to be sunny. I have to believe that this cover will burn off soon, but who knows...

We had 11 of us for this trip. Pat, Ron, Chip, Bea, Karen, Gary, Sue, Linda, Nelson, Bob and Roy. Nice turnout. Nice to meet Bob, Linda and Sue. First paddle with Gary as well. Great day, Nice cool breeze out there. We paddled over to Saquish from Howland's Landing. There were quite a few motor boats anchored off of Saquish so no one gave us any grief for hanging out. The tide was still on the low side so we weren't in someones back yard. After a nice break, Nelson took off with Chip W. to head over to the Gurnet. The rest of us paddled around Clarks Island and headed back. The water was surprisingly calm for most of the trip. It was just under 7 miles. Bea was nice enough to host the PPR on her deck.

PPR on our deck was a lot of fun. We threw some burgers and hot dogs on the grill. White wine and beer consumed while waiting for the food to be ready. Russ, Roy and Ron talked about valves (don't ask!). Jordan, you would have loved that conversation!

Nope. It's now my tender... :D :D

Actually I will just be a little more selective on the kayak trips this year. But it is by no means retired! I have still yet to get to Monomy.

Thats is the only video. Hope to get some more soon. The camera can only do about 30 sec at a time... quite large files too.

The boat is 22'. It is an Oday.
