Monomoy Wednesday 1st Sept.

Post by Briggsy »

Looking to paddle monomoy again on 1st Sept. Check out my previous post...... viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2137&start=0 which did not happen due to storms and lightening!!!!
High 5.52am, Low 11.46am (I really want to explore at low water so that works great), High 6.08pm.
Plan to launch at 9 ish but will change to accomodate travelling times. Poss 10 to 15 mile trip (all day anyway). No real plan as yet, just get out there and explore!!!!!
I will check here daily, up to Tuesday am.

Hey, maybe we can have a Monomoy reunion trip and scout a different area.

If things go really well at work this weekend for the project we're working on and putting into production tomorrow, I'll see if I can take next Wednesday off. Just checked the vacation calendar and nobody else in my group is scheduled to be out, so there's a good chance I can have it.

Hope I can join you,
Norm

Looks like things went well on my project for work, so I should be able to take Wednesday off no problem.

John - you're never in the way...hope you decide to come. Maybe you and Bea can get together for the drive down from Marshfield.

Barb - would you like for me to pick you up? It's not too far out of my way. There's limited parking at the put-in for this trip and I've been there a few times already this year.

I can probably put a third boat on my truck if more want to join. There's an alternate put-in nearby if more join the trip and parking becomes a problem.

So far it's a yellow long boat convention instead of a re-union. :)

I can fit 3 or 4 boats on my truck too if folks want to meet at my house which is 5 mins off exit 9B in Harwich.

Car pooling works for me. I can fit two long boats on my car. The Ski Market parking lot off Route 3 Exit 12 (Pembroke/Marshfield) is a good place to meet.... Just an idea?

I'd like to go but I understand a 6 car parking limit poses an issue. Not familiar with the area... is there 'local' parking somewhere - ie. so I can unload and park elsewhere, walking distance? Another paddler is thinking of paddling this trip but we could probably carpool together (taking 1 spot). Anybody have input for me? Suggestion?

Linda - come on out and join us. We'll find room to park. This is Briggsy's trip, but one of the possibilities is that we could try the planned put-in and if we can't get enough parking there, go to Morris Island Road where it's possible to park on the side of the road and put in on the harbor side of the causeway. The battlefield road put-in is easier, but Morris Island road is doable, just a little longer trek to the water with the boats.

Here is a link to Google Map of the two put-ins. A is Battlefield Road, B is Morris Island Road.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Battlefield+Rd&daddr=Morris+Island+Rd&hl=en&geocode=FRDMewIdekLU-w%3BFde5ewIdSYDU-w&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=41.665603,-69.969134&sspn=0.015388,0.027595&ie=UTF8&ll=41.666404,-69.967332&spn=0.015388,0.043945&z=15

That's my 2 cents worth,

Thank You, Norm... I don't mind parking a slightly different place if I know where to go... I'll double check with Ric and be sure he's still interested too...

I'm not sure how busy the Battlefield Rd area will be this time of year mid week, but we do have the advantage of being able to squeeze all our vehicles together really closely as we are all arriving and departing together. Norm is right, we could launch from elsewhere. Also, as I said I live 5 mins off the highway in Harwich and can carry several kayaks. Folks can meet and park at my house and load up my truck and go with me.
So I would like to launch around 9.15am, does that present any problems for anyone???
And how many vehicles are coming??? Norm and Barb in one, Bea in another, Linda and friend in another, Johnnysmoke ???? Bea if you are coming down alone do you want to meet at my house and we go together like the other week in Falmouth, that was a pretty quick car swap??
Once we get a few replies to the above questions I'll post the final plan Mon night about 10pm. I think we should aim for the Battlefield Rd launch and if its full move on to the Causeway.
Look forward to meeting a few new faces.

I do apologize but I can not make this paddle... an appt made in June conflicts and ultimately was why I was late picking up on this thread... I got caught in the moment and should have re-checked my calendar.
You all have a GREAT TIME, Be safe out there! Hopefully, someone will take pics.
(Ric - the guy I mentioned traveling with above can't make it either, I just found out).

Briggsy - I'm definitely picking up Barb (wildwoman). I could also pick up Bea at the Ski Market if John decides not to go.

John - are you coming and are you planning to meet up with Bea? I could pick up Bea if you have to head somewhere else after paddling and need to bring your own car. I'd just like to know so I can figure out what time I need to get started. I hope you decide to join us.

OK, looks like you have organized the carpooling, it's just Norm's car and mine so shouldn't be a problem. I aim to be at Battlefield Rd at 8.45am. I would imagine we will get back mid to late afternoon.I have charts and Google Earth pics printed.
I'll check here Tues am and pm, otherwise see you there....

Bea and Barb,

Here's the pick-up plan:
6:00am - Norm leaves home.
6:20am - Pick up Barb at her house.
6:30am - Leave Barb's.
6:50am - Pick up Bea at Ski Market Parking Lot in Marshfield
7:00am - Leave Ski Market
8:15am - Arrive in Chatham with time to stop at Rest Room
8:30am - Head to put-in
8:40am - Arrive at Battlefield Road

I think I may be underestimating the time for loading the boats, but over-estimating the drive time, so I think this schedule will work out ok and has a little room for delays.

Does this plan look ok or would you like a little more detail? :D

Thank you to Dave for posting and running a fantastic trip. Swimming with seals and chasing strypers. Hope you were able to catch some of this with your camera, Norm..............

Looking forward to pictures and trip report.

Bea - Briggsy and I flipped the plan that we discussed after PPR - Briggsy will do the initial trip report and then I'll add pictures. I took a quick look at the pictures last night and I have a few good ones - nothing spectacular. I'm curious to see how Briggsy's underwater shots of the stripers came out.
