Powder Point-Gurnet-Saquish Thursday Oct 28

Post by NorwayLady »

Forecast for this Thursday looks pretty nice. High tide at 3:30 pm. Was thinking of launching from Powder Point at 11:00 am. Heading across Duxbury bay towards Gurnet followed by lunch at Saquish. Return around Clark Island OR across to Standish shore OR retrace our steps back to Powder Point all depending on conditions etc.

This trip will be about 10 miles at a moderat pace. Life jacket and spray skirt required. Duxbury bay is shallow and can get splashy if the wind kicks up. Right now they say winds of 13 mph.

Please respond to this thread if interested, and I will post details.

Hi Briggsy!

Happy to hear you are able to join me. Below is the link to the Powder Point put in.
How about meeting at 10:30 am for a 11:00 am launch. Does that work for you? I am flexible.

Plenty of parking at this time of year. Parking always free and no sticker required.

Anyone else interested in joining us?

NorwayLady.

Cool! If it is just you and me, we can extend the trip:
1. Bug Light and over to Plymouth beach (about 10-12 miles) OR
2. Out on the oceanside of Saquish and Gurnet Light. It can be rough out there, so we would have to gauge it as we go. This will extend the trip to about 15 miles.

It's not an official yellow kayak club gathering unless you get at least a third participant!!! :D

Wish I could join you. :(

I can get there by 10 if you want to start a little earlier. Not sure how LOW low tide is there (in Duxbury Bay)? I will check here again tomorrow am before I leave

Hi Dave and all,

I have a few things going in the am, but should be able to get there by 10:30 am.

The launch is on the right hand side before you drive over the Powder Point Bridge. You are allowed to drive your car on to the beach to make an easy launch, and then park your car after.

Low tide is at 10:00 am. It will be slippery, but not muddy. We should have plenty of water all the way out if we stay close to the boat channel. We will be fighting the tide a little, but it is not too bad (mostly around Clark Island and around Saquish Point).

Any last minute Turkeys are welcome to join.........especially if your boat is yellow (we will miss you Norm)

Great day to paddle, wish I could be there (got to work)... Have a GREAT Time, all !!
Sending your launch into to a friend (Carleen) that asked me about paddling today, she may meet you at the launch.
Bea, hope it's OK to give her your cell number so she can let you know if she's coming - or if she has any questions.
