Washburn Island camping - May 21/22 [Room for one more!]

Post by pat »

Edit: May 10 - there is currently room for one more.

There are a few sites available for the weekend of May 21/22.

I say that we should go whenever we want, and just mount a D-Day style assault on the beach where we stayed last May. If we do it properly, anyone already there will flee the island at the prospect of having to camp near such a bunch of ill-dressed yahoos. Just wear your geekiest paddling gear. That junk certainly scares me... :)

Failing that...

Let's just try for the weekend, and if that doesn't work, it will just have to be mid-week. We'll survive.

Pat,

I'm interested! Count me in please. I don't know what else will come up between now and then, but I was actually looking at the Washburn sites early last week while at work and thought about grabbing 1 + 2, and I think it was for that same weekend you propose. But then things got busy and I never got back to it.

Hey Mike - did you notice that May 21 is Armed Forces Day when you proposed storming the beaches?

I am in. I would grab 2 sites. If we get more people, I am sure we can squeeze them in. The ranger didn't seem to care.

Although Finn McCool didn't specifically say he was in, I kinda got that impression, so that's 8 people.

HOWEVER...

There are still sites available for that date, and if anyone wants to reserve one, it's quite possible that others might be interested that don't follow the forum all that regularly.

Hi Everyone. I realize this trip is full. If any one drops out or there is a possibility of squeezing one more person on 1 of the sites, I would love to go.

Hi Tracey,
I bet there are still sites available for the same day. If you want to add another site for others as well, feel free. You can also wait for a cancellation. It has been known to happen.

Glad another site was reserved. You ought to ping some of the other female kayakers out there and see if you can assemble an all-estrogen site.

Happy to hear that this trip might be a little more female centered, although I still hope Chip will pamper us with some good cooking?

Thanks for reserving the sites everyone!!

Luxury!

Sue and I spent all morning (and several hours over the weekend) on the roof chiseling away at the ice dams. Massive leaks coming into the house.

Worst. Winter. Ever.

I feel your pain, literally. I woke up this morning to water dripping and I was not near a faucet. I just came down from spending 3 fun filled hours on my roof chiseling the ice dams. I hope I did not put too many holes in my roof.

Cure for ice dams from This Old House: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/skill-b ... 04,00.html

Don't get on your roof with a chisel. This looks much safer and simpler.

Now, if only *someone* in this house wore panty-hose!

Hey Everyone,
I am going to have to bail on the trip. I just noticed my son is graduating from college on the 21st. That leaves a spot open if someone is on the waiting list.

Who is holding the waiting list? I am new to this group but would like to go.

Last fathers day I camped here. Actually I made the reservations and made my family go. They were all surprised and had a great time anyway. OK they said they had a great time but who really knows :). Talking with the ranger if the weather is at all squeamish there are cancellations that will not make it back into the Reserve America site but if you call the Ranger Station on Friday ( no one there Saturday) you might be able to score one. Not sure why the group site is not open? I am going to email and check this out.
