Cape Cod pt 2. Weds 15th June 2011

Post by Briggsy »

Weather permitting I am planning to paddle from Megansett Harbor, Falmouth to Quisset Harbor down near Woods Hole on Wednesday 15th June. Looking to launch around 9.30 to 10 am but there will be some shuttling beforehand.
As Norm and I found last week, the water can get a little choppy around the headlands and assuming we will have the usual SW wind it will be against the breeze, so bear that in mind if you are thinking of coming. Time permitting there looks like a marshland area south of Chappaquoit beach (on Google Earth) that maybe worth poking our noses into. I don't plan on venturing into the small harbors en route. Trip distance looks to be around 12 to 14 miles.
Please let me know by Monday pm at the latest if you are coming as we have to firm up times and arrange shuttles. I work till 10pm Tuesday so Monday night is my last chance to get back to you.
Cheers Briggsy

Briggsy, I'm curious if your definition of Cape Cod includes the Elizabeth Islands all the way down to Cuttyhunk?

If so, I am officially and emphatically not going to join you for that section!

Bea - Would you like to meet up and ride down together as we've done before?

Thanks, Norm. I would love to. The Ski Market parking lot? At what time?

Place: Ski Market sounds good.

Time: Early enough to beat Briggsy to the put-in again and keep my record intact!

Actually, the plan will likely be to meet at the take-out this time and consolidate equipment for a ride to the put-in. Not sure what time yet. Will have to tell you in a private message so Briggsy won't know what time we'll be there.

It isn't. Pt 3 is Quisset to Washburn through Woods Hole. My excuse is the area is known as the Cape and Islands !!!! Have to save something for next year!!

OK, gotcha. The Islands next year - which presumably includes Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket?

The Grand Loop from Monomoy south around Nantucket, west to the south shore of MV, across Vineyard Sound to Cuttyhunk and then up Buzzards Bay back to the Cape.

Many have dreamed of this trip. I don't know of anyone who has paddled it in a kayak.

I've paddled around the Elizabeth chain and Martha's Vineyard. Had a trip planned to circumnavigate Nantucket that was thwarted twice by weather.

Maybe some day.

Norm and Bea, meet at Quisset at 8.30, leave my truck there and head up to Megansett for the launch.

When I get a date for the last section, I really am going to try to do it. I'm asking friends here already if they know folks at the Corps of Engineers. You know how these things work, you have to speak to the right person.

Those paddlers both work at Osprey, so talk to them at some point this summer.
