Slocums River, Dartmouth, Sunday, 7/17/11 9:00am

Post by norm »

Any interest in paddling the Slocums River Sunday morning?

Launch from Russells Mills Landing in Dartmouth at about 9:30am. Paddle out to Demarest Lloyd State Park beach for a snack. Maybe go out into the bay a little if the conditions are not too bad. Probably paddle 8 - 10 miles, maybe more. Conditions could be rough at the mouth of the river.

Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat.
Ability to paddle over 10 miles.

Please reply if you plan to attend.

Norm,

I'd like to join you on Sunday. If the winds are light, we could go out into the bay and around to Little River and the marshes beyond. Low tide looks to be around 4 pm.
Wish I'd known about the NSRWA trip today!

Norm, put me down as a probably. Can you send directions, as the driving time will be one of the deciding factors if I can be there

Audrey - the NSRWA event was their event, a fundraiser. We were there as safety escorts...just a few regulars that go to the skills sessions regularly.

Going out into the bay and up Little River sounds good. I have not done that before.

Bob - here is the google maps link to the put-in: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=russells+ ... 2&t=h&z=17

Hi, Norm - I would love to be a part of the group. I will try the directions you gave Bob. I assume there is a parking lot where I will be able to see where everyone is. I am totally unfamiliar with this place, so do not have a picture of it in my mind. Does anyone ever exchange cell phone numbers to keep in touch on the morning of a trip? Looking forward to the paddle! ... Pam

Pam - the parking lot is a nice little park at the top of the river. There is a trip report from last year here with a picture of the playground at the put-in: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2265

We should be able to venture out further this time. Last year it was just two of us and my paddling buddy didn't have a spray skirt or flotation in the front of his kayak so we stayed away from any rough water at the mouth of the river.

Yes, we do exchange cell-phone numbers but normally use the private message feature so they are not displayed openly on the internet when the posting gets moved to the past trips forum open to the world. I'll send my number to everyone. Bob and Audrey may already have mine - I've already got theirs.
