Washburn 2012 - June 1-4 **official signup** [FULL]

Post by pat »

Sorry, this trip is now full.

This is the official signup page for the Washburn Island overnight camping trip for 2012. Basic details are:

We have three campsites for the nights of June 1/2 (Fri/Sat), and one site for Sunday night.
$9 per person, which covers the campsite rental fee and has already been paid by Norm.
Some communal food will be arranged as we head toward that date, and assume Tracey will have a major role in that.
You are responsible for everything else (transportation, kayaking gear, clothing, shelter, etc., etc.) Some carpooling will certainly be discussed over time.

Here is the original thread by Norm that started it all.

Here is last year's preparation discussion thread

Hi Pat.

I just signed up using the link you provided in your post. I used my PayPal account, but noticed several other options such as Credit and Debit card.

Really easy. Thank you for setting it up!

Hi Norm and Pat. I have signed up for this Washburn trip in June and I look forward to it ! I went through the link and signed up when the posting first came out in November. Other than the paypal notice I have not been notified that everything is in order and I am new to this so I hope I'm all good with being rostered ! I'll keep an eye on the postings.

Thanks,

Hi Ric,

Are you "rj_salty"? If so, then you're all set. Otherwise, email me a copy of your acknowledgement and we'll figure it out. At this point, there's still a little room, so you don't have to worry about missing out due to paperwork.

Not me this time...alas.

However, I might cruise over to Washburn from the other side of Waquoit on Saturday morning for coffee. Not sure of schedules just yet, but my son may be home with his family and we could be staying at my sister's place in New Seabury that weekend. I would launch from the well hidden end of Wills Work Road, way out just behind South Beach. A lot of my paddling last year was in and around Waquoit...must have been there a half dozen times after the Turkey camping expedition. Always fun.

Well, since you'll be on the road to get to the end of Wills Work Road that morning, how about picking up a couple Dunkin Donuts "Box O' Joes" for all your buddies? :D :D :D

(Just kidding...I like my coffee hot even if it's made with a coffee bag instead of a drip coffee maker.)

Sorry you can't camp with us this year but hope you can stop by to see us.

Well, don't expect me to paddle across Waquoit to cater breakfast. Looks like I got our visitors mixed up...and I'll be back home in Cohasset that weekend.

No Dunkin Donuts for you.

You do know that there is a floating bar in the Waquoit paddle area. He has all kinds of beer and many mixed drinks. Do you know where it is??

Well thinking about food, would it be overly complicated
to think about precooked bacon & eggs one morning ?

Another question I have is when should I plan on going
Down there, I have Friday off already. Is the main Group
Staying over Sunday as well?

My thoughts about food and my arrival/departure plans:

I'm taking Friday off from work and hope to get down there early and do a long mid-day paddle after dropping my gear off at the campsite. I will most likely leave Sunday evening because it is my turn to be on-call for work starting 7:00am Monday morning.

My opinion on food is that I think we should do some community evening dinners and snacks but handle breakfasts and lunches individually...but I won't turn down a good cup of morning coffee from one of you guys with the coffee presses. I think precooking some bacon is a great idea.

I believe we are going to have a few differing levels of desire to paddle. I think there will be people who want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the bay. And, I know there are others that are going to want to do a serious amount of paddling. There are going to be enough people around that everyone can have what they desire, we just need to communicate.

I also plan to do a little more hiking around the island this year.

So those are my opinions/plans, but I'm just one voice and will conform with others if I'm off-base with what the majority wants.

Thanks Norm, opinions appreciated. I am now planning to head down early on Friday as well, since it sounds like someone else will be around for an afternoon paddle.

Pat, it is looking like I'm going to have to leave Saturday evening because I think I'm going to be catching a flight out of New England on Sunday. That is not definate yet but I wanted to mention it in case you want to make Saturday night available. I will let you know as soon as I know for sure.

I agree with Norm on the food. I think there are too many people to have all community meals. Pot luck dinners are fine but other than that YOYO (you're on your own) I like the paddling options too.
I will be going down on Friday, not sure how early yet. I may put in a half day at work.

I am coming early early Sat morning so I can bring the Dunkin Donuts coffee if you guys give me a heads up on how many !!!
I will probably do my own thing for Sat dinner as I have just bought a food dehydrater and am practising using it !!
I'm staying Sat night and will leave early Sun for work.
Thats my 2 cents worth!

Hi Everyone.

I would like to volunteer to cook breakfast Saturday morning, for any one on the trip, who would like to have a hot breakfast of
eggs, (whole, no egg beaters) and ham. Please, just respond if you are interested.
So looking forward to next weekend and seeing everyone at Washburn.

Sorry for the late notice, folks, but I have to cancel due to unexpected events.
I understand that there was one extra person on the agenda so this should even things out.
Hope everyone has a safe & great time!!
