South Boston from Dorcester Gas Tank - 3/13/12 - 3:20pm

Post by norm »

Anybody else available for an after-work paddle starting at the Dorchester gas tank on Morrisey Boulevard Tuesday at about 3:20pm? I get out of work in Southy at 3:00pm and plan to meet Bea at the gas tank for a few hours of paddling if the rain holds off. We will decide by 1:00pm whether the trip is a "go" or "no go" based on the doppler radar and forecast. Right now they are saying there is a 40% chance of light rain.

We will probably paddle along the South Boston coastline because Sue would kill us if we went over to Marina Bay without her.

Proper cold water clothing is required. Air temps may be above 60 but water temps are around 40.

Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat.
Ability to paddle 7-12 miles.
Proper clothing and gear for cold water and air temps required!

Please reply if you plan to attend.

Thanks for posting, Norm. I'll check to forum around 1:00 pm tomorrow to see if it is a "go" or "no go".

Temperature is at 59 degrees and rising, might be 65 by 3:00pm. Showers have moved offshore. Sky is bright but overcast. Looks like we have a nice weather window to get out on the water for a few hours.

I'd say it's a "GO".

See you at about 3:20 Bea.

The air temperature was fantastic but the wind kicked up too much. We decided to hug the shore of Dorchester and did not head over to the South Boston Waterfront. We didn't want to have to fight the wind on the return trip, in failing daylight, so we just took it easy and watched all the commuters fight the traffic on the expressway. We were watching for Nelson! :D
