Cohasset - Sunday - May 20, 2012 - 10:30am

Post by norm »

I'm hoping parking at the Cohasset town boat ramp is still open to non-residents before Memorial Day and I'd like to take advantage of the convenient parking once before summer. Plan to arrive at 10:30am and launch at 11:00am.

High tide is at about noon and it is only about an 8.4 foot tide. I'd like to try padding into the Gulf River first if it's not too rough under the bridge, explore the whole Gulf River for about an hour and get back out under the bridge at slack water. Next head over to Little Harbor and see if it is possible to get in before the water is flowing out too strong. After that, either explore the coastline or head out to Minot Light if it is nice and calm. Will probably paddle 12 to 15 miles depending on who attends and how far they would like to go. If it is just Sue and I, she will probably want to paddle further...

Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat.
Ability to paddle 15 miles.
The water is still pretty cold - proper clothing and gear for cold water temps required!

Please respond if you plan to attend.

I've got a commitment in the AM, but I might be able to rendevous around noon when you emerge from the Gulf. Will that work?

Is this your one appearance for the year???

Sure, that works if we're actually able to get into the Gulf as planned. Do you see any issue getting in an hour before high tide?

An hour before high tide might be a fairly energetic ride... considering that slack doesn't happen until 45 minutes after the high. You might consider pushing it back a little...or just giving it a go, anyway. Might even be fun.

Aha! Slack is 45 minutes after high...just the information I was looking for. Thanks! Looks like we'll have to cruise around the harbor a little before venturing into the Gulf.

I'll send you a PM with my cell number if you want to try calling when you arrive. I can't guarantee I can hear it and answer it, but I can try.

Expect to encounter an AMC trip leaving Parker ave ramp ~0900 and heading out to Minot. I'll be with the AMC folks.

Thanks for the "heads up" about the AMC folks. Maybe I'll come over early to meet these mysterious Boston AMC folks that I keep hearing about but never see.

I am doubtful. My balky shoulder didn't do well after last nights paddle so I will probably take the weekend off.

That sounds like fun. I might do that.

Please let us know how the wave is? Got over there Thursday night and it was a nice clean little wave.
